Hi I'm new to this site my daughter has had a deficit in both jaws,

She is finished growing so they plan to do her surgery as soon as we

get insurance approval. They will move both forward but the bottom

one is up behind the top which has always resricted her airway some.

Has a hard time running etc. Anyway was wondering if anyone else

had a child go through this? Or had both jaws done? Debra

I am 16 and I just had both jaws done, along with genioplasty. I

have heard that the younger you are, the easier the recovery. I

guess we youth just have that spark :)

You did mention that she your daughter has difficulty running? I

suppose if it has to do with her jaw function, there is nothing you

can do about it, but I would strongly recommend getting into shape

before the surgery. The recovery from this surgery can be physically

demanding. I exercised for several months before the surgery, and it

helped alot. I am now almost 2 weeks post-op, and I am swimming laps

to rebuild some of the stamina that I lost after being forced to eat

not much other than chicken broth and juice for 2 weeks. I lost 10

pounds in the first week, and it stabilized after that (after I was

able to eat with a spoon).
