Guest guest
Is an individual able to write to their previous Drs and get their medical background or does that have to be requested by their primary physician? I would like to get the records so I could see my weight fluxuations throughout the years, plus I want to see if this last Dr. mentioned anything about high blood pressure, as she always used to say I had it, but I never got any medication for it. She is the only one who ever said I had high blood pressure and I think she may have used a sleeve that was too tight and when they do that, sometimes it registers high. At any rate, I would like to be able to review these things to write my letter for insurance and to use as back-up. Carole

In New York State you can get copies of your medical records yourself. Someone just needs to sign off on them. However, you generally just can't get an entire file. You need to tell the clerk exactly what you are looking for such as history pertaining to back pain, etc. They can also charge you for each page copied. Guest guest
Sure you can, Carole, they are in fact YOUR records. I got copies of records and tests from various doctors without any problems. However, the only exception was my psych eval, I don't know why that dr. didn't want to give me a copy. He sent it to my surgeon who then in turn gave me a copy. So go for it, get those copies..... I also wrote to the doctor in whose care I was prior to moving to TN, although I haven't yet heard from his office. I don't even know if I need records more than 4 years back, but I asked anyway. --stella
