Guest guest
This is one, of findings that will be posted for all this list to see about Patients being Misdiagnosed. It is so important to investigate for your self. When you are Misdiagnosed and use Medicine for the Misdiagnos's, you endanger other Nero transmitters. Also, Doctor shopping is ABSOLUTLY in anyone's best interest, and you should learn all you can and ASK QUESTIONS, and if you can, know the answers. This is the only way you will know if your doctor is on top of your problem or not.. I stay on this list to make sure that what happend to my Deborah DOESNT HAPPEN TO SOME ONE ELSE. Even Bill W. might agree to this one. LOL Best regards " tenacity's man " ________________________________________________________________________________\ ________________________________________________________________ British doctors at the Glan Clwyd Hospital have just issued a report which concludes that Parkinson's disease is often misdiagnosed. Their study involved 402 patients who had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 74 general medical practices across Wales. The patients were examined by specialists who concluded that only about half of them (213) actually had true Parkinson's disease. Although most of the patients (74 per cent) had some form of parkinsonism, no parkinsonism was detected in 103 (26 per cent) of the patients. Half of these patients actually suffered from essential tremor (which requires quite different medication) while 16 per cent actually had Alzheimer's rather than Parkinson's disease. Nevertheless, all 402 patients had been prescribed medications for Parkinson's disease (mainly levodopa). The doctors point out that only about half of these patients would have derived any benefit from their medication (as only half of them actually had Parkinson's disease); The other half would merely have been stuck with the side effects of the medications which can be quite severe. The doctors strongly urge general practitioners to refer patients with suspected Parkinson's disease to specialists before initiating drug therapy _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
Guest guest
Thank you for staying around and for your reminders. No one wants to go through what Deborah has and no one wants to be misdiagnosed. Guess we should always question those that provide our care. When we do research and ask questions we are being advocates for ourselves or those we love. Guest guest
Good Morning Jan, Thank you for your support. As you know, 18 months ago, I didn’t even know how to spell Parkinson's/MSA, much less know anything about it. When I Married Deborah, I knew she had the problem, but I fell in love with the lady of my life and back than we were dancing and traveling. Well, that soon stopped. I have investigated this and all related problems and I am still trying to find the real problem that she has. But Boy, has this been a trip. It is hard for any one to have a brain disorder of any kind, but to find so many Doctor's who are in fact still Practicing and really just testing, and the problem is, their testing on you. And that is just unacceptable. Our family physician whom I have been going to for over 7 years and trust, told me the other day, than he has learned one huge thing from all that is going on with Deborah, he said “ Doctors Need To Listen To Their Patents, We just don’t listen, We spend perhaps 10 or 15 minutes and make a life decision and that is at the cost of our patients who give us their trust ”. This doctor is a internist, not a Nero. He sent Deborah to one of the Best in Charlotte ( he thought) , He now has a HUGE second thought about that one.. By the way, he is not the one who Misdiagnosed or gave Deborah the PD/MSA Rx’s The real problem with all this misdiagnosing is, that they give you medication’s that harm you in other ways, that is why it is so important to try and educate your self a little so that you will have some clue to what they are doing. Quite frankly, if one would just read the post on this list or ask some questions before seeing the doctor, they could have a great deal of knowledge to take with them. For instance, look at what Pam has come with just in the last few days. All you have to do here is ASK!!! Every day, medicine changes, and if your not on top of it, you will get lost in shuffle and you really cant afford that to happen to your self.. Just like the Scans, weather it be a SPECT or a PET or perhaps Chiari. You need to know about them, weather you elect to have this checked out or not, at least you know about them. Hiding in a closet with your disease and just taking your meds and come to find out later that “Gee, if I had only known”. That’s the problem… As Deborah has said so many times before she left this group, “KNOWLEDGE IS POWER”.. I happen to be on the board of directors for the Mecklenburg County Parkinson’s Assoc. And when they found out that Deborah didn’t have PD/MSA they called me and ask that I wouldn’t resign my post, the reason being that I did in fact know so much and they want me to help them in there fight . I told them, why would I leave? Your right, I do know quite a bit and learning more every day and of course you got to know that little Deborah is some where in there helping lol…. by golly, we might just be able to help. Who knows, one day I might turn up with PD/MSA or something, you just never know.. I would certainly want some one to help me if they would and could. Life is about giving not taking and helping each other for the cause. That is why I can’t leave Shy-Dragger. As I learn something new, I need to tell all about it so that perhaps they can benefit from that knowledge. I am not sick, at least not yet, so I have more power to go forward and learn and report. To me, that is what these support groups are all about. HELPING ONE ANOTHER. Again, I thank you for your support, Best regards, “tenacity’s man” > >Reply-To: shydrager >To: shydrager >Subject: Re: Misdiagnosed Patients >Date: Sun, 15 Sep 2002 04:20:11 -0000 > >Thank you for staying around and for your reminders.
