Guest guest
Hi Matt, myson who is also 19, just had surgery to corect an underbite. He had an upper forward and a genioplasty. He is 5 days post op. This is something he really wanted to do. I guess you could visit an oral surgeon and see what treatment he would recommend and take it from there. This group is great place for getting info, it's really helped us alot before and after the surgery. good luck
Guest guest
Matt After taking impressions, photos , etc, the oral surgeon and his team dedided what type of treatment would work for him. In his case the upper jaw was moved forward 5mm, the lower jaw was not touched, and the chin was moved forward 8mm. They gave a second option of also moving the lower jaw 5mm and the chin only 4, and that would have given him a stronger chin , but after much discussing with his ortho, and a friend who is an oral surgeon he opted to go with less surgery. Im not sure which is harder , upper or lower, I ve read that with the upper you have more problems with being stuffy and so on, and with the lower you get some numbness which goes away at some point . As he got older his underbite got worse, and he could only chew on his front teeth, the molars didnt meet. He was in braces since Christmas. Guest guest
Hi everyone, I'm new here. I'm contemplating having jaw surgery, and I can say fortunatly, I don't have any pain, or much clicking and popping for that matter. I really have an even bit, maybe a very light underbite. I was thinking since my case doesn't seem to severe that my surgery wouldn't be too severe? Just lower only? I haven't even gone to consult an OS yet, nor have I been recommended for it, it was suggested as an option by my orthodontist about three years ago (I'm now 19). I just read some of the bad experiences everyone seems to have, so I'm very worried. I would like the look of having a normal bite, but my main concern is having abnormal wear. Does anyone have opinions on my situation, or suggestions? Anything would be appreciated, and I thank all of you for contributing to such a helpful site. Guest guest
Did the surgeon specify why he did the upper and lower moved back? I hear the upper is much worse. How is your son doing? How bad was his underbite? Thanks so much for your help. Matt > Hi Matt, myson who is also 19, just had surgery to corect an underbite. > He had an upper forward and a genioplasty.
