Hey all, I'm new to this site so first I just wanted to say hi!

Secondly, I am having surgery and I am having my jaws wired together

for 6 weeks, and my os is using screws put into my jaw at various

points as the anchors for the wire. I don't have braces right now, so

those can't be used. I'm wondering how he's going to remove them when

all this is done, because it seems like it would hurt, and if so, if I

am going to need to be numbed or put under for it. I can't imagine

being awake for the un-drilling of screws would be a plesant

experience...does anyone know of anyone who has had this done this

way?

Hi Stargazer,

Welcome to the site. You might want to talk to your surgeon again

about the way he will be wiring you shut. I didn't have braces on

first either, so what my doc did was to put temporary braces on

during the surgery. The screws he used in me were under the skin to

hold the bone in place, and he wired me shut using the temporary

braces. The screws are left in most people unless they cause a

problem. Most of mine are still in. Good luck, when is your surgery?
