orthodontist rubberbands

Hi everyone,

I'm 18 days post surgery. I had my upper jaw raised and widened, and

my lower jaw moved forward, with chin enhancement. On Monday, my OS

finally cut me free from the rubberbands that were holding my jaws

together post-surgery. I felt like a new person!! However, on

Tuesday, I went to the orthodontist, and he's having me wear new

rubberbands to hold my jaws together. They're nowhere near as tight,

and I remove them to " eat " (I'm still drinking my food) and brush my

teeth. However, when they're on, I feel like they're pulling so

tight, my teeth are going to break. In the two weeks after my

surgery, I had virtually no pain. But, now, I'm really starting to

feel it! Is everyone else wearing these rubberbands from the

orthodontist? And, if so, are they feeling terrible? I know I'll be

in them for atleast three weeks - when I have my next ortho appt. I

don't know if I can make it! I thought I was through the rough part.

Help...

It sounds like we had the same surgery. I am 3 weeks post op today

and just saw my surgeon and ortho today. the ortho took off the bands

put on my the OS and put new bands on that are tight, tight, tight. i

took advil before the appt and will take it again before bed. i am

drinking my entire diet, and as i hear it, the ortho work is a tad

bit more uncomfortable than the surgery recovery. so far i am achy as

can be, but not much more than a normal OD visit. Try some advil or

tylenol in the meantime if you are uncomfortable.

The day that my ortho put me in his rubberbands I had the worst

headache of my life. The most pain after surgery. The next day

wasn't as bad and it got better there after.
