Guest guest
Hey, I'm new to the site and was wondering if there was a difference between the post op bands the surgeon puts on and the ones the othro puts on. Right now I'm 6 days post op of upper and lower surgery and have really tight bands on which is causing the only real pain I have. I read on an eariler post that after a couple weeks the othro puts on a set of bands that really hurt. If anyone could help me out w/ an answer thatd be great. thanks
Guest guest
Some of us are banded after surgery, and those bands are to keep the jaws immobilized. The surgeon places bands around where the teeth meet to keep the jaws fixed shut. Those bands don't really hurt because the teeth are together and all the bands are doing is holding them together. However, after surgery, not all the teeth meet in a perfect bite. For example, the back molars may not come together. It's the orthdontist's job to bring the molars together. So, he puts bands on to get those teeth moving together. Those bands really hurt, because the molars are being moved.
