Guest guest
I rec'd this from a list participant but didn't have an answer for this family. (Since I got it privately, I have deleted personal information but left the main question). Anyone else got experience with BoTox for snoring? ..................................................................... Hi Pam... My wife has had MSA for 6 or 7 years. She is now in a wheelchair full time, and over the last 4 to 6 months the nighttime "snoring" has become unbearable. No one in the entire house really sleeps well any longer. I found a research article about BoTox injections for these symptoms, did a series of tests (EMG, Swallowing, etc.) and the conclusion was that the injection in the vocal chords might help. Our Doc wants to inject just one side first and see what happens, then do the other side at a later date. Did you do anything similar? Any information you can provide would be appreciated. Guest guest
Pam, We don't have any experience with Botox for snoring, but I'm wondering if they've had a sleep study and tried either a CPAP or BiPAP machine. That's the usual treatment for this problem, which sounds like stridor. If they do go ahead with the Botox it would be really great to keep the list posted on the results. Thanks, Carol & Rob Lexington, MA Question on BoTox on MSA I rec'd this from a list participant but didn't have an answer for this family. Guest guest
This person already wrote me privately and via the list. Their sleep study didn't show apnea but I have reiterated to them that stridor is very serious and to be persistent in seeking treatment. I posted a recent research abstract that said stridor may actually be due to dystonia of the vocal cords ... not paralyis of the vocal cords ... and that Botox might help. If anyone has any direct experience with this please post. Regards, Pam Question on BoTox on MSA I rec'd this from a list participant but didn't have an answer for this family.
