my brother just had the jaw surgery and is feeling discomfort in his throat. can

anyone

comment on this? during the surgery there was a tube inserted through his nose

into his

throat and into his stomach (a lavage?) - that could be a reason for the throat

problems.

can anyone comment on how to ease this discomfort?

Hi,

Also had discomfort in the throat post op but only lasted for 3/4

days and this was due to the tube inserted during GA.

Found that using sore throat lozenges combined with the painkilers

being taken anyway soothed the throatas did ice-cream!

Hope that helps

Hi. I had the surgery a week ago today (Thursday) and I too had the

sore throat pain from the same type of tube. Initially, I tried

gargling with salt water but that seemed to cause more pain so I

called my doctor and he prescribed liquid aleve (crushed aleve is

almost unbearable to swallow, this isn't much better but at least I

can get it down). Anyway, this seemed to help because aleve's focus

is on reducing swelling and then the rawness in your throat.

Anyway, that seemed to work for me and also just time. Today, I'm a

week out and it is the first day my throat feels good.

Also, focus on cold liquids...warm teas also seemed to irritate my

throat.

I hope your brother feels better.
