Guest guest
Hi everyone. I've been reading this board for a while now without posting and it's really helped me through my experience. I had lower adv 9mm and genio 5mm just over 3 weeks ago and am posting to give others encouragement. The first 3 or 4 days post-op were pretty horrible really, but after that it's uphill all the way. The numbness in my lip, chin and toungue tip is VERY gradually wearing off (getting burning and tingling sensations all the time - which I take to be a good sign). Pain went totally after a few days, but the jaw ache persisted until the beggining of this week, as the jaws have gotten used to their new bite position. I had the top surgeon in the UK perform this on me and the results are impressive. I have had absolutely no bruising on my face at all (did get swelling though unfortunately) and was softly-chewing pasta from day 2 post-op. I even managed to go out for a few drinks with my friends 10 days post-op and we went on to a party where I was meeting new people and they didn't know I'd had anything done until I told them! My tip is get fit before the surgery and eat as well as you can post- op. These things seem to have contributed to a speedy recovery for me. I hear that double jaw surgery is worse, but my point here is that it really need not be as unbearable as some are thinking it's going to be. There are a lot worse things to suffer out there. And you get the bonus of looking better at the end of it! ONE QUESTION I do have is did anyone else find that the swelling in their cheeks fluctuated a lot during recovery? My swelling seems worse now than it was 1 week after the surgery, but maybe I'm imagining things? Anyone else have lower only that can tell me when their swelling had all but gone? ps For all you upper jaw casualties, my surname should interest you - it's Le Fort! That freaked me out a bit. Good luck those awaiting surgery - it won't be as bad as you think.

Guest guest
Hi. My surgeon was Mr Bentley. I was told he was the top man in the UK. Are you from the UK? > > Hi everyone. > > I've been reading this board for a while now without posting and > it's > > really helped me through my experience. > > I had lower adv 9mm and genio 5mm just over 3 weeks ago and am > > posting to give others encouragement. > > The first 3 or 4 days post-op were pretty horrible really, but > after > > that it's uphill all the way. Guest guest
Yep, Im from the UK too. I googled your surgeon. Hes at Kings College Hospital, is that right? He does seem to be a very qualified surgeon! Out of interest, did you have your surgery on the NHS or privately? > > > Hi everyone. > > > I've been reading this board for a while now without posting and > > it's > > > really helped me through my experience. > > > I had lower adv 9mm and genio 5mm just over 3 weeks ago and am > > > posting to give others encouragement. > > > The first 3 or 4 days post-op were pretty horrible really, but > > after > > > that it's uphill all the way. Guest guest
I had it private and it was covered by insurance thankfully (although I paid for the genio). It's all really starting to take shape now. I'm very plaesed with it. What was your experience and where did you get it done? > > > > Hi everyone. > > > > I've been reading this board for a while now without posting > and > > > it's > > > > really helped me through my experience. > > > > I had lower adv 9mm and genio 5mm just over 3 weeks ago and am > > > > posting to give others encouragement. > > > > The first 3 or 4 days post-op were pretty horrible really, but > > > after > > > > that it's uphill all the way. Guest guest
Im actually really only at the beginning of the process. Ive had braces for a year or so now, and my teeth are straight (before they were all over the place). But in terms of my overbite, it will take more orthadontia before I can have surgery. Im probably having upper surgery too, as I have a very gummy smile. My surgery will be on the NHS and Ill be having it done at my local hospital. Actually youve just reminded me about something else I was meaning to post about so Ill do that now. Anyway, I hope everythings still going well! > > > > > Hi everyone. > > > > > I've been reading this board for a while now without posting > > and > > > > it's > > > > > really helped me through my experience. > > > > > I had lower adv 9mm and genio 5mm just over 3 weeks ago and > am > > > > > posting to give others encouragement. > > > > > The first 3 or 4 days post-op were pretty horrible really, > but > > > > after > > > > > that it's uphill all the way. Guest guest
Well good luck and it really isn't as bad as you may think it will be. > > > > > > Hi everyone. > > > > > > I've been reading this board for a while now without > posting > > > and > > > > > it's > > > > > > really helped me through my experience. > > > > > > I had lower adv 9mm and genio 5mm just over 3 weeks ago and > > am > > > > > > posting to give others encouragement. > > > > > > The first 3 or 4 days post-op were pretty horrible really, > > but > > > > > after > > > > > > that it's uphill all the way.
