Guest guest
Hi everyone! I was wondering if someone could help me out with what facial effects moving the upper jaw *upwards* will bring about? I know about positives such as reduction in gummy smile and reducing a long face-shape (both of which I have). But does anyone know what other effects it has, ie on the nose, the upper lip, the cheeks etc? Any help would be much appreciated!

Guest guest
Hi Trouble! I had upper jaw done, along with lower and palatal split on April 14 He shaved 3mm off the top jaw to correct a gummy smile. My top lip and gum feels a little tighter - my top gum is still a bit numb and yes, you do see less gum One little problem - it did bend my nose - the septum buckled a little - most people haven't noticed - but I obviously know my own nose - so the surgeon has said he will fix it with a small septoplasty. I do believe this is one of the hazards of upper jaw surgery although I wasn't aware of it. Other than that I don't think it has changed my face too much - my cheeks an lower jaw line are still a little puffy so it is difficult to see what the the end result is. I had my surgery in Guildford - whereabouts are you? Sue (UK)
Guest guest
I had upper and lower done almost 3 months ago. I also had a turbinectomy--removing some small bones in my nose to make everything fit better. Anyway, my face does look different. Not in a bad way, but a subtle difference. I personally notice no more gummy smile (which I hated). But everyone else notices my nose and just overall appearance. They never really know what it is...a new haircut, weight loss, etc. I've had several people who I normally see once a month for a lunch meeting tell me I look " fantastic " but they can't figure out why. You can view a before/after pic here: http://share.shutterfly.com/osi.jsp?i=EeAMnLhixaOGjE1g Unfortunately, you can't zoom in on these photos which would allow you to really see the difference. But you'll get an idea anyway. > Hi everyone! > > I was wondering if someone could help me out with what facial effects > moving the upper jaw *upwards* will bring about? > > I know about positives such as reduction in gummy smile and reducing > a long face-shape (both of which I have). > > But does anyone know what other effects it has, ie on the nose, the > upper lip, the cheeks etc? > > Any help would be much appreciated! Guest guest
Hahaha thanks jo! Best of luck, and Ill look forward to chatting soon. Hi Sue. Thanks for the info. It sounds like youve had a good result overall! Out of interest I will mention the septum when I talk to my surgeon. I would be interested to hear how common problems are. I live in Kent. I wont be having surgery for quite a while yet though, there still quite a bit to do with the braces. Becky your pics are fantastic! Theres definitely a big improvement. Thanks you! > > Hi everyone! > > > > I was wondering if someone could help me out with what facial > effects > > moving the upper jaw *upwards* will bring about? > > > > I know about positives such as reduction in gummy smile and > reducing > > a long face-shape (both of which I have). > > > > But does anyone know what other effects it has, ie on the nose, the > > upper lip, the cheeks etc? > > > > Any help would be much appreciated! Guest guest
I am four weeks post surgery today and had upper moved up, lower brought forward, chin extension and roof expansion. I am still a tad swollen and know that all my soft tissue needs to settle, but i can tell you this. GUmmy smile, GONE. Long face, still there. Nose is wider, i think from tissue pulling on it from the sides, this might change, but i can breath much better through my nose. no other major changes with the upper going up. Guest guest
Hello. I had surgery on my upper and lower jaw 10 days ago for an open bite and to straighten out my upper jaw which was slanted. My bite is straight now but my nose is bent to one side of my face and I'm having problems breathing out of one nostril. My septum seems deviated. I don't know if it's going to go back to normal with time or if its perminent, but I see my doctor in a few days. The side of my face that my nose is bending towards is also more swolllen and numb. This is probably rare but thought I'd share with you my experience.
Guest guest
hi-- I didn't get all the answers on fri--he needed to do the face bow and another xray...so thurs-10 days pre-op I will hear it. But they did mention a deviated septum is no wait, a preferated septum is a common side prob but usually repairs itself. It's be it's so close to the upper jaw. I def will ask more about my nose bec since you mentioned/asked I have read a lot of nose changes and I am going up A LOT...like almost a full cm....at least 8mm! Gums-r-us. and maybe expanded in surg but not an expander. so that's got to come into play I think?@!! answers on fri if I don't implode prior (that is 10days pre-op and I learn 2 wks open or 6wks wired! ha! TWEAKING!) jo > > > Hi everyone! > > > > > > I was wondering if someone could help me out with what facial > > effects > > > moving the upper jaw *upwards* will bring about? > > > > > > I know about positives such as reduction in gummy smile and > > reducing > > > a long face-shape (both of which I have). > > > > > > But does anyone know what other effects it has, ie on the nose, > the > > > upper lip, the cheeks etc? > > > > > > Any help would be much appreciated!
