Guest guest
I'm on day 10 of post-operative Orthognathic surgery. I had surgery on my mandible and maxilla to correct an open bite, straighten my upper jaw, and aleive TMD problems. I feel almost back to normal and can't wait to be unwired in a few days. However, I'm still a little swollen and bruised and my nose is hanging out on the wrong side of my face. My nose is bent to the side like a " J " and I can't breathe well out of one nostril. I was hoping it would go down with the swelling, but it doesn't seem to be getting much better. Does anybody know if this is normal or did something go wrong? Guest guest
--- Hi , My nasal issues were better by day 7. I had septo and turb reduction along with upper and lower jaw surgery on July 6th. The sides of my nose along with cheeks, upper and lower mouth area are still numb with very minimal swelling. It doesn't sound normal to me but I'm not the OS either. I ask the OS for his/her opinion. Hope everything turns out okay. Take Care, In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " natalie_beggs " wrote: > I'm on day 10 of post-operative Orthognathic surgery. Guest guest
Update on my nose problems: I saw my OS today and got unwired (yay!). She said the septum is detached during upper jaw surgery and they position it straight again at the end of surgery, so something must have bumped it to make it bend to the side. It was probably the nasal airway tubes or something. But she is having me go in tomorow to fix it. It seems too simple of a procedure. All I do is take some valium before I go in, they put cocaine around my nose, make an incission right under my nose, and position my septum back into place. Bata-bing-bata-boom. It feels good to finally be in the homestretch. > > I'm on day 10 of post-operative Orthognathic surgery. Guest guest
Did you really mean they put " cocaine " around your nose? JO > > > I'm on day 10 of post-operative Orthognathic surgery. Guest guest
They packed my nose beforehand with cocaine packing: cotton packing with cocaine on it to numb my nose completly. I thought it was strange too when she said she'd be using cocaine on my nose, but the original purpose of cocaine was medical because it's great at numbing things. > > > > I'm on day 10 of post-operative Orthognathic surgery. Guest guest
Ok, I find this amazing...sorry to seem to intrigued but this is something I have never heard of... If I may ask a couple more q's... 1. where is home--USA? I'm thinking ny/nj with the bada-bing note 2. would you have to be concerned with not passing a drug test post- op? I mean it's not alot by the sounds of it, but bagels can do it w/poppies so hmmm..... 3. any side effects? .........thanks JO > > > > > I'm on day 10 of post-operative Orthognathic surgery. Guest guest
Jo, HaHa. I thought it was weird too. My surgery was done in Oakland, CA. They did warn me that I shouldn't try to pass any drug tests right away, but that's not going to be a problem for me. As for side effects...there were none. My nose was really sore all that day. This hurt worse than my jaw surgery, so I wish they had used more cocaine to numb it. Right afterwards my nose felt paralized, I couldn't move my nose or cheeks for a few minutes. But no, I didn't feel high. I was tired and went to bed. > > > > > > I'm on day 10 of post-operative Orthognathic surgery. Guest guest
That is so interesting...amazing that it is something that is used...I mean it totally makes sense, but it's just shocking to hear...and sorry about the nj comment...being from NY we get a lot of that so no affense! I'm just laughing to myself now, waiting for someone to use this one on me when I have to have them drug tested to start a new job --I'm a recruiter and have heard nearly all the " reasons " why someone fails...usually bec of marijuana, and it's something like, well I was at this party and other people were smoking it and of course I DIDN'T, but my god, it must have gotten into my system!!!!!! At least I now know about the deviated sep! Hope its feeling much better now Nat! JO > > > > > > > I'm on day 10 of post-operative Orthognathic surgery.
