Guest guest
Hi, I’m going to start the process leading to orthognatic surgery. I’m going to align my and then correct my mandibular advancement with up and lower jaw surgery. I was wondering: as anyone used ceramic or other kind of “aesthetic” braces in this process? All the best for everyone, your kindness is an inspiration… Sebastian Silva
Guest guest
I have the clear braces. I figured the extra cost was worth having to deal with these things for 2 1/2 years. I have liked them. I have had them on now for 1 year 7 months. I believe that they are a tad bit larger than the metal ones but I didn't care. Also, they are prone to discoloration but I take good care of them and I drink everything through a straw, yes that means coffee too. > Hi, > > I'm going to start the process leading to orthognatic surgery. Guest guest
Everywhere I go doctors tell me white braces are too fragile to undergo surgery, I don't know if they are telling the truth or trying to sell the type of braces (metal ones) they're used to apply. I heard new versions of ceramic braces are stronger, but I don't know much about the subject, that's why I was wondering if anyone had the experience of combining white braces with surgery. -----Mensagem original----- De: spongebob94521 Enviada: domingo, 25 de Julho de 2004 1:57 Para: orthognathicsurgerysupport Assunto: Re: Braces I have the clear braces. Guest guest
I have never heard that. I had upper and genio, no problems. > > Hi, > > > > I'm going to start the process leading to orthognatic surgery. Guest guest
I have the clear/ceramic braces. They've been on since July 2003 and I had upper jaw surgery less than 2 weeks ago. You can definitely do the surgery with these kind of braces. I think there are different types of ceramics, and maybe in the past they were too weak. But not now. But if you can afford the extra cost it is well worth it. And like someone previously mentioned, they can discolor so they really do need to be taken care of. But that's true of any braces I suppose. Good luck! Josh > Hi, > > I'm going to start the process leading to orthognatic surgery. I'm going to > align my and then correct my mandibular advancement with up and lower jaw > surgery. Guest guest
I have transparent braces - not ceramic though. They haven't discoloured at all. They are hardly noticable & have had no breakages. No probs with surgery. My orthodontist only offered me clear braces & of course I said yes. Good luck. > > Hi, > > > > I'm going to start the process leading to orthognatic surgery. Guest guest
HI, I'm in my 30's and got the small metal braces, here's why, they are less deep (from tooth to lip) and smaller in shape. I thought if someone were to notice my lips hanging out there, better they see why and closer to my face was better. I had the clear ones in HS and even though I was careful, they did stain and looked odd I thought. Heck after all you're doing this for a reason, and for me, yup I am proud--check out these tingrin wonders!! ps--for surg they prefer metal, as they are more durable and allow for a less intrusive wiring if necessary...but do whatever YOU like best and the os agrees with! It's your face...be happy jo > > Hi, > > > > I'm going to start the process leading to orthognatic surgery. Guest guest
I had ceramic uppers and metal lowers. My ortho recommended the ceramics, and I had no real problems with them. (They can splinter, I've been told, and if a bit of one finds its way into your lungs, it cannot be found by x-ray.) I repeat, I had no trouble with them; I think I've been on this site, more or less, since 2001, and I can't remember anybody ever reporting having this trouble. All that said, I actually found the metal ones more comfortable, smaller and with fewer sharp edges. My ortho does not use the ceramics on the lower teeth, at least in mouths like mine, because they are so strong that they can actually crack a tooth. The metal ones, on the other hand, will pop off before they do that. For me, there was no risk of that on the uppers. I had lower advancement (by 5 mm) with 3 mm movement of the lower jaw to the right at the same time. Cammie > > Hi, > > > > I'm going to start the process leading to orthognatic surgery.
