I am almost 20 weeks post-op and I have noticed some swelling yet in and

around my cheeks, some days it looks better then others. And I was told that it

could take a considerable amount of time for the swelling to go away. Six

months to a year...Well good luck..

I'm almost 3 months lower jaw advancement postop and i still have a

very small amount of swelling in both my cheeks. Actually, there is a

bit more in one cheek and it make my face look somewhat asymmetrical.

My surgeon tells me that that type of residual swelling can last up

to one year... my ortho says it can last about 6 months.

Anyone else experience this type of residual swelling?

Thanks.

I had surgery on my lower jaw, upper jaw and chin on June 15. I am also

concerned about swelling. It has gone down a lot over the past few weeks but I

still don't look quite normal. I have swelling in my cheeks, upper lip and

chin. My surgeon is very vague about how long this will last. He just says

it's

different for everyone. Any tips on how to make it go away faster?

--- Hi Jill,

I doubt theres anything you can do to speed it up. I was told

swelling can last up to 3 months. Full healing is a year!!! I'm

almost 3 weeks postop with minimal swelling thats not bad or

disturbing me. The OS stated ice and elevation wouldn't make it

disappear, it just has to do with inflammation that's left over. I

guess it takes its sweet time to go away. I just tell myself that

at least I don't look like I did when I came home from the

hospital!! I keep giving it time.
