Guest guest
I'm get braces Tuesday, it's a weird thing to be excited about- but I am Anyways, after my consultation I decided to do jaw surgery along with the braces I have a really retracted (is that the word?) lower jaw. Basically I have a terrible " weak chin " . Even though the surgery won't be for about a year and a half, I want to know what it's like? How bad is it post-op? For anyone who's had it done, do you regret it? Just really curious. Thanks in advance! Bethanie
Guest guest
--- Hi Bethanie, I'm postop day 20. I had upper and lower jaw surgery with genio, septoplasty, and turbs reduced. I don't regret having the surgery. I had breathing issues, TMJ, speech problems, swallowing issues, etc that would get worse if I didn't have the surgery. So far I'm happy with the results. Having a top-notch OS helped ease alot of anxiety about the surgery. I would say the first week postop is the worst then it gets better. At this point I'm sick of liquids (for 5 weeks in my case) and less energerized. Most of the swelling is gone, the bruising is basically gone. The numbness in my cheeks, upper and lower lip area, chin/neck area still remains. I'm also banded for 5 weeks (not everyone's case). Hopefully afterwards I'll have the braces for only 6 more months and then I'm done (again hopefully). I had braces for 10 months before the surgery. The teeth had to be aligned correctly for surgery. Overall I'm glad I did the surgery. Good luck!
