Guest guest
Carol, I would ask the doctor about the pain and see if it is caused by cramped muscles or something else. If it is cramped muscles they may be able to find a muscle relaxant or antispasm med that can help him. I always found massage and warm compresses (a buckwheat seed round pillow type heated in the microwave) helped my wife. Guest guest
Hi Carol, My wife has had head aches and they too were at the base of her neck, I bought her a barley shell pillow (neck model). I got it bed bath and beyond but they are available at many places. I always put it in the microwave for about 3 mins and it gives her good relief. I also keep or kept her in a tall recliner so as to keep her neck supported when she is up. Now we have a wheel chair with a neck support built in. We believe now after so many misdiagnoses of PD/MSA from her Neuro’s over the past 3 years, that she in fact might have a limited Chiari malformation. We have to wait for her immune system to get back to normal before they can do a CSF study. This will cause this type of head ache. You might ask your doctor for a CSF study and a full CINE MRI. I must tell you that unless your doctor is really up to date on Chiari, You could easily find nothing. However, once you get the exams done, and if your doctor is not up to date on this condition, you can send your scans to one of the Chiari Specialist for review. You can find a lot of information on Chiari at http://www.medhelp.org/HealthTopics/Malformation.html I hope this might help you in you quest for relief. “tenacity’s man” > >Reply-To: shydrager >To: shydrager >Subject: NECK PAIN RELIEF? >Date: Tue, 01 Oct 2002 23:28:31 -0000 > >MY HUSBAND HAS PAIN AT THE BASE OF HIS NECK, HAS ANYONE FOUND RELIEF >FROM THE USE OF MASSAGE, HEAT, COLD OR OTHER TREATMENTS? > > >If you do not wish to belong to shydrager, you may >unsubscribe by sending a blank email to > >shydrager-unsubscribe > > > > >
Guest guest
I have a thing that we bought in the mall composed of herbs that are in a pillow-like cushion. You heat it in the microwave and it will give you about 10-15 minutes of very soothing pain relief. It really helps me and if you want, I'll try to find the person here that sells them and get back to you. Dr. Ray -- NECK PAIN RELIEF? Guest guest
My husband Tom also had neck pain about a year and a half ago. It seemed to be relieved by BenGay or any other heat cream. After about 6 months it seemed to go away and hasn't returned. His only pain now is in the calves of his legs and we use the same treatment and it seems to ease it so he's comfortable. I never tried the heating pad but that may work as well. Tom was always athletic and jocks apparently have to use BenGay so we do. Sandy B.
