Guest guest
Hey everyone! Five days post-op here, and I was thinking. It would have been really nice to have a list of " must-haves " from people who have been through surgery. I'm sure each list would be different, but they would still be helpful. That's why I'm going to post my top five things that have come in the most handy this first week post-op. Hope you all will join in as well!! 1. Something to touch. I know this sounds weird, but my friend got me a pillow that feels so weird, I touch it all the time. Having something to feel really takes your mind off the surgery and is also very therapeutic. 2. A shower head that can be removed. This will help with taking showers so the water is never directly aimed at your face. 3. Zip-n-squeeze bags. Truly a God send once you are ready to use them!! 4. A Water pik. When all that gunk comes out of your mouth, you just feel so clean. And also, it keeps all those dark places clear of any build-up. 5. Vaseline on a q-tip. I know this sounds a little weird, but my nose was VERY raw after surgery. Putting a little vaseline around the nostril on the inside would keep me happy for hours!! I also found body pillows, a dry erase board to communicate, and the support of your friends and family very helpful!! Best of luck
Guest guest
If I was to narrow it down to five things, it would go like this. Liquid decongestant nasal spray humidifier zip-n-squeez bag for rinsing child size siringe for medicine > Hey everyone! > Five days post-op here, and I was thinking. Guest guest
I just wanted to mention that many OS's may advise against using water piks until the wounds inside the mouth have healed.... > > > > Hey everyone! > > > > Five days post-op here, and I was thinking. Guest guest
I was told not to use water pic, also I only got 1 zip-n-squeez and just used it for rinsing. I used a cup to drink from and a siringe for the yucky meds. At first a cup is difficult but you get the hang of it. Oh and I totally agree with the pet therapy. I have a Rat Terrier puppy who can drive anyone crazy but for the entire first week home, he sat in my oversized recliner with me, never leaving my side. He was my little angel. Of course he has gotten back to his usual self but I have a new respect for him. > > > > > > Hey everyone! > > > > > > Five days post-op here, and I was thinking. Guest guest
I think I got the package where you get 5 for fluids and 5 for pureed (sp?) food. My parents just hand-washed them and them placed them over stryofam cups to dry. Very easy to use!! > > > remind me, how many of those zips did you get? and how long do they > > last? can you put them into the dishwasher? or hand wash and reuse? > > like a ziplock?? > > thanks, I have to order any day now...gulp! > > > > > > Hey everyone! > > > Five days post-op here, and I was thinking. Guest guest
--- Top Five:(in no order) 1. Humifidier 2. Zip and Squeeze Bags 3. Child Toothbrush 4. Jaw Ice Wrap (purchased from the Zip site, excellent, comfy) 5. My parents. Couldn't have made it without them. I thought the pureed bags worked well. I just rinsed right after eating with hot water. One bag lasts awhile. I didn't find the other bags helpful. I preferred to drink liquids with a syringe, the cup has been to painful and slow. I thought some of the recipes in the liquid diet book from the zip diet site were pretty good (esp turkey and chicken pot pie dishes, oatmeal recipe).
