I heard on the news today that some researhers (sorry, I don't know who - I

didn't catch that) said that there was a higher incidence of heard disease

and stroke for those using these drugs. Having had three strokes already, I

found this quite interesting. I will of course, call my doctors. Watch the

evening news today, they will probably mention it.

Just thought you should all know! Love, Judy

I believe that was for causing bleeding in the stomach.

People had died from taking it and then suffering the bleeding episodes in the GI tract, but the percentage was very small compared to the users, so that one didn't bother me too much. I did check that out thoroughly too.

This was has me a little more worried though.

Guess I will discuss it with my doc. I really don't know what I'll do if she decided I shouldn't take it anymore. It's been a lifesaver for me as far as helping with the pain of OA.

I'll let you know what she says.

If I was on Vioxx though I think that I might be into the doc today. There was something else about Vioxx last year, I can't remember what it was, but I do remember that I didn't to take it for some reason. Let me know what your rhuemy says, ok.

Take care,

Luv Elaine

Hi Curly,

Welcome back. I was wondering where you were.

OA is the wear and tear arthritis and I have it. Very common too. Why did you think we couldn't get OA with RP Curly? (too many initials here, LOL)

Glad to see you again girl and ask all questions that you have. That's how we learn from each other.

Moe

.. Isn't Celebrex a treatment for osteoarthritis, that part I'm sure of, but my understanding is that with RP we don't have osteo, we have rheumatoid. Please tell me if I'm wrong because this has confused me. Knowing she'll have the answer...Thank You...Curly

Hi , From my understanding, the two are about the same. As for the

components, I don't know. I started out on Celebrex and my Dr. changed me

to Vioxx. Why, I thought it was a " Dr. " thing. You know how some of them

are. " Well, he gave you this, the ball is in my court now, I want you to

take this one " , know what I mean?

As for the Osteoarthritis, and the Rheumatoid, I have the Osteoarthritis,

and tested negative on the Rheumatoid at the time. So the ?'s have it I

guess. They both helped me some I think? I am off of both now because my

levels of this and that were off and my Rheumy advised me to get off of the

Vioxx if I could. My Wal-Mart Equate for Aleve does as much if not more for

the pain.

Hope this helps some, I told you we were all kin, Arthur is all of our's

cousin!!!!

Love and Prayers, Lucy

PS My Mother does have a UTI and they think that she may be uncomfortable

from that, she is still mighty frail and weak. Please keep her in your

prayers, (Me too Please) I'm not ready to loose her at this moment in

time. You can't get ready I know, but it is so hard with me being here with

this dumb disease that when ever something upsets us, we stand to flare.

Hey, I should be a solid rock by now, nothing ever upsets me, does it

? LOL The trip is just too much to see my Mama at around 65 pounds

and the chance that she might not even know me. I really don't know what to

do right now.

Hi ,

Celebrex has woked well for me too. But like all the other anti-inflamatories I took before it I am building a resistance to it. The longer I take it the less effective it is. So eventually I will go off it. It's not working like it did at first and my sed rate is going up again and my metho had to go up.

Let me know what your doc says ok.

Luv Elaine

Sue & ,

They are both anti-inflammatories.

I have osteoarthritis as a result of the RP.

Elaine, you are absolutely right - I think we owe it

to ourselves to take the initiative and be aware of

what we are giving our bodies (althou as you say,

where would we be without meds!) I was prescribed

Celebrex after a fall, I told the doc there what meds

I was taking & he said it shouldn't be a problem (I am

on metho) I had some left over, and because it was so

effective for the pain I have taken an occasional one

when in dire need. But I will check with my rheumy

when I see him next week. Love Liz
