Guest guest
Hi everyone! I just had my surgery this past July 20 and although my swelling has come done quite a lot and I have no bruises at all, I just can't seem to be able to close my mouth completely. I am wired and banded and I can feel my back teeth touching but I just can't close my mouth. I have a gap of about 9 mm. I am really concerned about this I know it has only been a week but I just want to hear from someone elso who maybe went through the same thing and can maybe give me some comfort. My surgeon says that all is going well and for me to give it time. By the way I had an underbite so my jaw was pretty much shifted back. Anyone please respond. thanks mickey
Guest guest
Hi Mickey, I had the same problem. I was comfortable with my jaws slightly apart but could not close my mouth properly/close my teeth togther without major aching. My ortho wasn't concerned and since I have been wearing a couple of bands at night only, the problem has passed and I can now close properly. It is just a case of the jaw muscles streching, building and everything getting used to it's new position. I'm sure it's pretty normal and nothing at all to worry about. Guest guest
Mickey - You need to trust your OS and your ortho on stuff like this. If they say everything is the way they expect, and all is well, then you should believe that. There's no way the people on this message board can judge whether or not you have a problem. Guest guest
Mickey, Jay is absolutely correct when he says to trust your OS and OD on this point. I had similar results on both my surgeries. The first time, I felt as though it was totally off, and I was correct. Thus, the second surgery one week later. But, even after the second surgery I couldn't close completely. My OS told me to be patient, and after a couple of weeks of bands, he went in and shaved down a couple of points on one of my molars and everything came together quite nicely. This was his plan all along, I just had to be patient. Guest guest
I had surgery for an open bite on July 14 and was recently unwired and am wearing bands now. Only two of my incissors in the front touch and none of my molars. I was worried at first because the whole point of surgery was to have more of my molars touch. But my OS said everything is fine and normal and this is where the Orthodontist comes in and fixes the bite now that everything is in position. So don't worry, you're almost done! > > > Hi everyone! > > > I just had my surgery this past July 20 and although my swelling > > has > > > come done quite a lot and I have no bruises at all, I just can't > > seem > > > to be able to close my mouth completely.
