I am going to see the oral surgeon and go from there I know my upper jaw comes out approx 10mm (this was ten years ago I was told)I have a really bad overbite I'm 33 now and I am very nervous but I want it DONE! if anyone can give me advice on insurance company, diets what to expect I would really appreciate that I am sure the ins co will deny the first request and I'll have to appeal it-but for me its needed I choke on my food and have difficulty in swallowing resulting in me choking on my own saliva! Does anyone else have that problem? Thanks -Laurie
Guest guest
--- Hi Laurie, I'm currently 3 wks postop upper and lower jaw surgery with genio. I'm 34 yrs old and was extremely nervous about the surgery. I avoided it for years. I could live with TMJ but speech and swallowing issues got worse. I would choke on food which was scary. I choked at a restaurant with my 5 yr old son which terrified him, this was on his 5th birthday too. I knew that the surgery had to be done. I figured it was going to be 5 weeks of misery and it be over. I had the saliva issue too which got worse. Unfortunately, my employer only offers Health Assurance which sucks. Thus I was stuck with the bill which had to be paid upfront. I'm glad I had the surgery. I would say the first week was rough and the worst but I'm doing okay now. I don't have alot of pep and I'm quite sick of liquids but I can't complain, life could be worse. I'm hoping when I return to my normal rountine the swallowing issues will be better along with the TMJ and speech. I know my breathing is better and I don't snore anymore (had turbs reduced and septo). Only 2 more weeks and I'm debanded and back to somewhat normal diet. I'm pleased with the results so far and I'm glad I had the guts to finally do the surgery. I really believe it will change my life dramatically in the end. I'll keep you posted.
