Guest guest
I don't know if this book has been mentioned before to this group. I recommend a book called "Parkinson's Disease, A Complete Guide for Parents and Families" by J. Weiner, M.D., M. Schulman, M.D. and E. Lang, M.D., F.R.C.P. A comprehensive resource for coping with medical, emotional and practical challenges, published 2001 by the Hopkins University Press. 256 pages. The book may well be available from some public libraries. It covers symptoms, diagnosing and treatment and has a section on Parkinson's Plus (MSA, PSP etc.). Symptoms covered include: - autonomic system impairment including bladder, bowel, sexual and orthostatic hypotension - balance and movement difficulties, including gait problems, slowness of movement and postural instability - tremors and rigidity - pain and cramps - hand dexterity - fatigue - masked face - voice changes - drooling and swallowing difficulty - sleep disruption - behavioural and psychiatric symptoms, including depression, anxiety, apathy, dreams, hallucinations and more. There is a long list of drugs for the above symptoms with comments. Much of the contents is relevant to MSA and it gives a good, broad, general background on PD and PD Plus.
