I had surgery 6 weeks ago to move my lower jaw forward and

genioplasty. From my lower lip to the outer edge of my chin is

still pretty numb in fact, my lower lip kind of burns like it is

really chapped. I expected some numbness but not this large of an

area. Can anyone tell me how long it should take to feel

improvement?

I had that same surgery, but also upper jaw AND widening of upper

jaw. My upper lip is almost back to full feeling, but my lower lip

and chin as well as the area on either side of my nose is still

almost totally numb. i will be 5 weeks tomorrow. it's really starting

to get to me too, but i try not to dwell on it and know that it's all

aprt of the process. The only thing is, as a teacher i go back to

work in 3.5 weeks and wonder if i can really stand talking ALL DAY to

fifth graders, as well as how will i eat AND clean up on days i have

recess duty or lunch duty. Ahhhhh. I think the numbness can take a

long time to go away but i have always heard that the burning or

tingling is a good thing. I find myself itchy in those areas and

when i scratch i can't STAND the feeling of scrathing numb skin and

tissue. kind of like nails on a chalkboard to me. Eeeeekkk.

(Your surgery was in Boston? Mine was on Cape Cod. My surgeon does

Boston surgeries too. Bravman)

Thanks for sharing. I'm having itching below my lower lip as well.

It drives me nuts to have the itch and not be able to stop it.

I'm actually from North Carolina. My screen name refers to my dog,

Hooch, who is a Boston Terrier.
