After getting a 2nd date for surgery--the first was called off 2 days

before when the surgeon realized my teeth needed a bit more tweaking--

I am ready again!!

I'd like to hear from anyone who done both upper and lower... I am

curious just how long its takes before you are functional again. I

realize that its not minor surgery, but I'm thinking: Its not as if I

use my jaws to walk...won't I be just about normal after a week or

so, if a bit more tired? I am taking off work for two weeks, should

this be enough? Its a simple job, but there IS alot of standing

required.

It would be way cool to hear from others who have had similar

surgeries or who will have surgery at about the same time as I (so we

can commiserate and compare progess). I have an open bite and a

crooked jaw. I am almost 25 years old.

I am not nearly as terrified about the surgery as I initially was!

Partially due to all the info on this site!

Hey Jessie! I had surgery July 14th..just about 2 weeks ago. I am 21

and I also had upper and lower jaw surgery to correct an open bite

and crooked upper jaw. I didn't think I was going to need upper jaw

surgery until a week before when they noticed it was crooked. I feel

totally fine now. I would have been ready to go back to work within

10 days, although they say you should be able to in a week. I'm

still a little swollen, but that's all. However I can't work yet

because I was advised not to lift more than 5 pounds for the next 6

weeks. Any job with a lot of physical strain where you might clench

your jaw muscles, jobs where you're at risk for banging your jaw, or

where you have to talk a lot are the only job you probably should

avoid for a while. I got invited to a party tonight, but I'm not up

to that yet unfortunately. Hope this helps.
