Guest guest
" I was going to start on flax seed oil with omega 3 and was wondering how you take it and how much.. I know some take the oil, the seed or the capsules.... Any idea which is best ??? Sorry I forgot all that was said. LOL " , I've taken both the flaxseed oil and seeds and I can attest that the seeds are far more edible. The oil is disgusting, even if you try to hide it in fruit juice. BUT if you're diabetic, then you shouldn't take it this way.... With the seeds, I just sprinkle it over cereal (I found granola cereal at the health/bulk food store that's wheat-free and not overly sugary). You have to use the oil within a certain time frame. With the seeds, you have a week to use AFTER you've ground it up. I believe that when it's whole there's no time limit but I can be wrong. The oil can be expensive. At my health food store, it costs a little more than $7. The flaxseeds are about 85-cents/lb. The flaxseeds are easier to travel with. You have to keep the oil refrigerated (I was traveling in Portugal last year and it was a challenge with the oil. Didn't know about seeds until 3 months ago.) I went to an arthritis support group meeting where the speaker, extolling the virtues of omega-3, said she makes her own butter by mixing the oil into the butter. She then puts it on toast. I tried to mix the oil into some pudding and putting the mixture into ice cube trays, but the oil made it taste awful (but better than with the juice). You'll have to do the math and figure out how much oil to butter you'll need to get the daily ration (see below). Here's a simple way to get your daily Omega-3 per day (just choose one): 2 tspns of flaxseed oil, 1 rnd Tblspn Flaxseed, about 6 walnuts, 3 oz. canned salmon, 3 oz. Atlantic salmon, 3 oz. trout, 3 oz. striped bass, or 3 oz. shrimp. Hope this helps! ===== When choosing the lesser of two evils, I always like the one I haven't tried. -- Mae West __________________________________________________

I took the easy way out, and bought the capsules... Will see what happens... I know me and I guess I'm just lazy.... know if the oil tasted bad I would end up not taking it and with the seeds (which I read was the best) I know I would forget to either put it on my cereal or grind it.... Thought I'd start with the softgels and just add them to my daily mega dose of pills. LOL Thank you for all the great information.... Maybe now I can work up to the oil or the seeds...LOL... One step at a time I guess. Thanks again... Hope you are doing okay and having a good weekend. hugs
