Guest guest
is there a more dramatic change in facial structure, if both upper and lower jaws are broken? How long is recovery for upper and lower surgery? did any one donate blood before surgery in case they needed a transfusion? are wires and bands mandatory for upper and lower jaw surgery? How long until i can lift wieghts again?
Guest guest
I am 7 weeks post-op. I had both upper and lower jaw surgery as well as my chin advanced. People tell me that I look different and that the change includes my entire face (including eyes and nose). However, I feel that they are reacting to the residual swelling that I have around my lower cheeks and upper lip. I think I will look more like my old self, just better, when the swelling finally goes away. (I have been told that it could last 6 months to a year!!) In the meantime, I love my new bite and my nice straight teeth. Jill
Guest guest
The amount of movement is what make the facial structure change. I had my upper advanced 5mm and lower reduced 3. I'm only 3 weeks post- op so I can't tell how much change yet. there are a lot of photos you can look at to see the facial changes people have had. The recovery varies from person to person, I was up and about by day 5-6. Some people have gone back to work after 2 weeks others have taken 4 to 6 weeks. It also depends on if you are banded or wired. SOme people have donated blood, but most have not as far as I can tell. Only your surgeon can determine if you will need wires of bands and for how long, different surgeons use different tecniques. I think weight lifting should be avoided for at least 6 weeks because most people tend to clench and strain jaw muscles when lifting weights, but again that is a question for your doc. Take some time to read through the back posts, most of these things are addressed at one time or another. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Since I am wordy by nature and counting down--at day 6 pre-op with lots to do... It will all be somewhat dramatic...for upper you can usually expect your nose to widen just a wee bit-nothing anyone but you willprob notice...lower, more so if your chin is done too. if both, prob 6 wks wired, but each is unique. I donated 2x, as did some... depends on your surg... why did I? Shortage in my region of the US, 2, prefer MY blood, 3, can never tell if they will need it and since I am too tiny to donate, I thougth well if I don't use it, then I did someone else some good and donated to them. NO heavy lifting for usually a few weeks...as to bench pressing, that will prob be last...bec should you drop it..oh my that's not going to be helpful for your smile! Are you scheduled or just thinking? advice for you........... keep reading and talking either way. JO > is there a more dramatic change in facial structure, if both upper > and lower jaws are broken? Guest guest
Maybe I shouldn't tell you this, but blood given in an autologous donation (for yourself) is, I was told, processed differently than ordinary blood given for use with others. And alas, if they don't give it to you, they discard it -- which, frankly, seems a shame and a terrible waste to me, especially given how the REd Cross is always pleading for more. But that's the way it is, I was told. Still, your other reasons for the donations are sound ones. I hope you won't need it, but you'll know it is there, and where it's coming from, if you do. If my surgeon had thought there was a ghost of a chance of my needing it for lower advancement, I would have done so as well.
