Guest guest
I live in New York City and I'm looking to get a sliding genioplasty possibly in combination with braces/teeth extraction (preferrably lingual braces because I have to work with many people daily) to treat bimaxillary protrusion. I find there are just too many links and information available to the point that I don't know who to choose. Has anyone had procedures done by a NYC surgeon and was satisfied with results and the surgeon? THanks in advance for any advice or suggestions. Guest guest
hello- I had a wonderful surgeon, but the only thing is he isnt from NYC , if your willing to travel to Long Island Dr. Capuano is excellent! > I live in New York City and I'm looking to get a sliding genioplasty > possibly in combination with braces/teeth extraction (preferrably > lingual braces because I have to work with many people daily) to > treat bimaxillary protrusion. Guest guest
a (perhaps intrusive) suggestion: Think again about the lingual braces... I have heard that they are slower, more difficult in general, difficult for speech and hard to get used to. I have also known a few folks who chose them and were well pleased with them. The newest technology is almost invisible. After finishing treatment, including surgery, I had a cleaning at my periodontist's office. Not until I was leaving the office did I even notice that the hygenist had braces... and not lingual ones. They were clear, and the wire was almost invisible, and she told me the next wire would be even more so. A lot of us have done the traditional braces, worked with people daily, talked a lot, and found that it made not a whit of difference to our conversational partners. (If I were starting again, I'd do all metal, because I found them more comfortable, although most recently I had ceramic uppers and metal lowers. You might also investigate " speed braces, " or Damons, which are self-ligating, often with smaller brackets than usual. In addition to which, while you'll feel " on exhibit " briefly while the hardware is new, honestly nobody else cares much. Those who do usually care because they have some flaws they'd like to fix in their own mouths. Do you know that braces, extractions and genio are what you need to fix your bite? That's an important question. I did the surgery, involving lower movement only, because I was told by everybody I asked that it's important for long-term retention of the changes. Ask lots of questions. Then weigh the risks and benefits, and choose what you think will work best, long-term, for you. Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately LI is too far. I've found a Dr. Weber in Manhattan (Madison Ave). Has anyone heard of him? > > I live in New York City and I'm looking to get a sliding > genioplasty > > possibly in combination with braces/teeth extraction (preferrably > > lingual braces because I have to work with many people daily) to > > treat bimaxillary protrusion.
