Guest guest
Another question, probably best left for the OS. I recently started seeing a Chiropractor to take care of my neck (It curves forward instead of backward). She's very excited for my surgery, and has told me several times now that this surgery is going to help me a lot -- it's reassuring getting that kind of enthusiasm from a doctor that's not directly involved in any of this process! What I'm wondering -- and going to ask in a couple weeks when I see my OS for my last visit before surgery -- is how soon after surgery should I expect to be able to resume the Chiropractic care? Neither I, nor my Chiropractor want to interefere with the healing of my jaw. Has anyone else out there done Chirporactic along side the jaw surgeries? ~Jen
Guest guest
I was under a chiropracters care for 6 months prior to surgery, I had upper cervical problems, sounds simliar to what you say. I suffered from chronic neck and back pain for a very long time. Every time I had an adjustment with my OD I could barely get out of bed the next day. From the moment I woke up in recovery I knew something was different. I have not had a second of back or neck pain since I had the surgery. Hope it helps you as much! Guest guest
Fiddlesticks, who's out of pocket a bit at the moment, used a multidisciplinary approach. She had sacro cranial massage, chiropractic, MLD massage, naturopathic (is that the right word? I always get tangled up in them) consults and regular yoga, and swears that by doing so she not only fixed her bite and jaw troubles, but solved some other long-standing structural issues. I would certainly ask my OS about the return to the chiropractor, if I were you. Guest guest
Yes, i would agree with Cammie, check with your OS. I am 5.5 weeks post op and just made an appt with my chiro for this thursday, for both myself and my 10 month old! She will use an activator this time as i usually lie face down with my face in a cut out face pillow, so no go on that. but i have no qualms about her using the activator on all the sites she usually adjusts. > Another question, probably best left for the OS. > > I recently started seeing a Chiropractor to take care of my neck (It > curves forward instead of backward). Guest guest
I don't think I went to the chiropractor for at least 10 weeks post- op ... and even then, we went very, very gently. My cranial massage therapist suggested no high velocity adjustments. I also didn't see my cranial massage therapist for 6 weeks post-op, ortho not until 8 weeks post-op. I wouldn't be in too much of a rush to get back to treatment post-op. There's plenty of time once you're properly healed (bones takes 6-8 weeks to heal). > Another question, probably best left for the OS. > > I recently started seeing a Chiropractor to take care of my neck (It > curves forward instead of backward). I felt pretty fatigued for a while after surgery and co= uldn't contemplate even seeing my OS. I'm now 12 days post-op. I discussed my surgery with my chiropractor before I went in and he said that as soon as I= was feeling up to it he could treat me. Obviously a good chiropractor will= adjust his/her treatment method so as not to interfere with your recovery, = especially your jaw, just make sure you are confident with what the propose= d treament will be. I haven't seen my Chiro yet, but I probably will soon. L= uckily my neck and back have been ok. Although I have found sleeping on my back, = at a 30-45º angle, quite difficult to adapt to. Hope this helps a little. = Ali
