Hi all,

Most of you wont remember me but for the few of you that do... I'm

coming up on my 1 1/2 year anniversary of my 3rd surgery to correct

an open bite. I was hoping that I wouldn't relapse a 3rd time but my

oral surgeon told me last week that my bite is about 2mm open and he

can't guarantee me that it wont get worse. Sigh... I'm really praying

that it doesn't get much worse. I'll be content if it stays as it is

now, 2mm isn't horrible. I'm not as sad about it as I should be,

perhaps it's because I kept my expectations low. I'm not that shocked

about it, just frusterated that noone can give me definite answers.

Anyway, the few of you who are still here from way back when have

been so supportive I thought I'd keep you in the loop. I'll keep

updating if anything major is found out or decided...or if I end up

wanting to vent.

Thanks,

Neta-lee

Hi Neta-lee

I hope all goes well for you, you totally deserve it. I can

partially relate to what you are going through. I had upper and

lower jaw surgery in March 2002 for an open bite which has re-

lapsed. My case was taken to several maxillo-facial surgeons who

all said to leave my jaw the way it is, as another operation will

probably result in another relapse. So now, I have to go back

every 6 months and have TM joint xrays and hope the joints are not

getting worse. If they do get worse, I might need steroid

injections in them. (God, I hope not). I really want to have the

surgery again, not a day goes by that I don't think about my jaw and

I am so concious of it. I'm always moving my bottom jaw forward to

get a nice profile (but you can only keep it there for so long).

It's such a frustrating ordeal!!!!!!!! My lower jaw was moved

forward 8mm but after the re-lapse it has moved back 5mm and boy

does 5mm make a difference. There was also talk of getting a chin

implant done but yet again, I'm most likely to have a re-lapse.

Basically I just can't change my appearance, my body likes to be in

its original state. How many mms was your lower jaw brought

forward? Were you wired or banded shut? I was banded shut and for

not really that long (if I can recall).

Thanks

Julz
