Guest guest
Hi guys! I came on this forum a lot last year when i first got my braces but since then i've been trying not to think about the surgery but I'm due for my second appointment with the surgeon (first appointment was before i decided to go for it so nearly two years ago). Now, I'm in France, so it's likely to be different for me, but I was wondering if you could tell me how long people have to wait between the surgeon saying you're ready for surgery and the actual operation? I mean, if the surgeon thinks I'm ready, will I then have to wait another six months just to get an appointment for the surgery??? Thinking about it, it wouldn't make much sense to make someone wait six months if they're ready now as it means wearing braces for six months longer. Thanks for your help and good luck to you all! Guest guest
That is a really difficult question. It depends on the surgeon, the hospital, possibly even your insurance and there could be other factors I did not have to deal with. In my case after 2 postponments because I was not ready, when I was finally given the go ahead it took 6 weeks. Marsha > Hi guys! Guest guest
Depends, I think, on how busy the surgeon is -- and sometimes other factors. I'm thinking about our friends in Toronto who had trouble getting scheduled because of the totally unpredicted SARS difficulties that shut down some hospitals for a time. That's a rarity. I called my (busy) surgeon a month before my ortho thought I'd be ready. We scheduled, my ortho got nervous about whether I'd be ready, so we rescheduled again... and I got a date about a month and a half after the first one. And I was going in June, which is a difficult time for the oses around here, as many school kids are trying to get these surgeries, as well as wizzies out and whatever else is needed during the break. I reckon teachers are, too. Cammie > Hi guys! Guest guest
I agree, it depends on where you go. I have Kaiser, and when I was ready during the summer, I wanted to schedule the surgery for that winter, but they had nothing available until the next summer...bassically I had to wait a year with the braces just sitting on my teeth not doing anything. > > Hi guys!
