Hi everyone. I havent posted for ages so just thought i would give an

update. I am now almost 5 months post op and doing fine. I had u/l

surgery done on march 11th. I am now in a situation where i have my

braces removed and am down to just wearing a clear retainer every

night. i am still quite swollen (especially around the nostril area~)

but my ortho assures me that this should subside after about a year.

people i meet do not recognise me and after having some recent photos

back i must say i can see why. to be perfectly honest i prefered the

way i looked before the operation but then if i had not had the

operation there was always going to be a risk that my bottim jaw

would keep growing making my bite much worse.

my teet and jaws still feel a little funny but most the time i hardly

notice it. iseem to have been extrememly lucky in the fact that i

have no numbness on my face or gums.

when i think back to the operation i struggle to think how i coped

through it all but i had a really supportive family who have been

great. if any one wants to ask any questions about the

surgery/recovery etc plz feel free

good luck 2 nyone going through this journey. it will be worth it in

the end

love

Stace,

I'm about 3 months lower jaw advancement postop and i too think i

liked my appearance better before my surgery. Yes, my bite is now

perfect, but I actually think i look better before.. the most

significant improvement to my face came from the braces, not the

surgery ...

given the risks of the surgery, i probably wouldn't have done the

surgery knowing the results i have now.. i know most have a different

opinion ....

my OD tells me that i have to wait for the residual inflammation to

subside and completion orthodontics before I can assess my final

appearance...

good luck,

ps. have you posted pictures on here?

what is it that you don't like about your appearance now? did you have a

weak lower jaw before? isn't it more defined now? please let me know.

hiya alex

sorry for my delay in replying.I suppose the main thing i dont like

about my appearence is my wide nostrils (which widen when i smile) .

My face is also smaller and rounder which i suppose was to be

expected. My slight swellin gives it a more chubby appearence which

is also not good. dont get my wrong from a functional point of u i am

really really glad i went throug with it. I guess the fact that the

before my op evertone would tell me how fantastic i look after i had

it done has just not come true.

hopefully it will get betta though. my ortho said it normally takes

about 12 months.

what stage r u at?

all i said was that i was better looking BEFORE the surgery...

before the braces, my overjet made my top teeth were very

predominant..however, after 1 year in braces my overjet was

significantly reduced, and i now feel that the remaining 5mm overjet

did not warrant the surgery...

i do have a perfect bite now...

it should be noted that i still have a tiny bit of swelling in both

cheeks.. maybe the results will change if/when the swelling completely

subsides... also, i'm still in braces and the OD is still working on

expanding both arches, upon my request..

each case is unique.. i would not try to extrapolate my results to

your possible results... my point is that you may have the perfect

bite after the surgey, but that does not mean your will look better ...

i guess it all depends how extreme the cases where before the surgery...
