Guest guest
Fiddly thinks (and others have told her) that her voice is lower. I have talked with her in person and on the telephone, and can't hear a difference. Other folks have found that their vocal qualities were improved as their resonating chambers worked better. I feel that I have a lisp now, and a whistle, but I'm told that nobody else can hear either. Why not tell your ortho/surgeon of your concerns, and ask them what they think? Some have found that things just stay the same. I'm thinking now of a woman who sings in a church choir and elsewhere, and aspires to do something similar to Mahalia ... If you play instruments involving embouchure, you may indeed find changes. There's a link dealing with brass instruments, and I know at least one trumpet player, who was a student through his college years and felt that playing the trumpet was an important part of his makeup, who believes that the numbness post-op, which has not abated for him, damaged his abilities. In short, you pays your money, goes through the op, and takes your chances. But do talk with your docs about what could happen. Guest guest
Not only others, but my cellphone would not respond to my voice commands post-op either! I corrected that by throwing it into the harbour (actually it fell in by accident, but that's a minor point, it deserved it for its impertinence). My mother was the most confused, not only did she have to get used to a different face after 46 years, but also a different voice coming out of it. She's used to it now. I think all worked out well in the end. Functionality was the goal, and that's what I got! > > i want to do it so bad because i have always felt so insecure about > my > > jawline and chin. i feel like i don't have one. i was excited to go > to the > > oral surgeon for tmj and find out about the surgery where he moves > my lower > > and upper jaws foward. he took some mri x-rays and my insurance is > going to > > cover it. my biggest fear is that it will change my pronunciation > or my > > voice. do you guys know anything about that factor. are there other > singers > > out there? i'm so concerned about that. but, i want the surgery so > bad. > > please help if you can. > > > > alex

Guest guest
She's Fiddlesticks, and is the owner of site 2 (orthognathic surgery support group 2 -- look at the links). She looks around here, too, from time to time. But probably the best way would be to join group 2 (if you haven't already) and either post or send her a note there. She's been in a real pressure period at work, and I'm not sure how much time she has these days, but I'm sure she'll be responsive to you.
