Hi!

Okay, I tried to upload some photos to the site, but it didn't work. I have to

figure

out how to save them as smaller files first. Until then, here's a link to my

mac.com

Web site that has a bunch of photos. Feel free to browse! The Las Vegas album

#1 is

a good one for seeing my pre-op look.

Before you look, be aware that I swell up and bruise more thank the average Joe

from

stuff like this, so some of the pics ain't gorgeous, ifyaknowwhatimean. I am

being

100% truthful when I say that I look WAY worse than I felt in some of the pics.

Also, I

am 11 days out today and have virtually no swelling left and only a little bit

of

bruising. I'll update the site as soon as I get a few more pictures taken.

A little about me...I'm 32, from Minnesota, a mom to a great 2 1/2 year old, a

junior

high English teacher, and just a little bit silly... :)

Wow, you do swell and bruise alot! Your pics are great! I hope I can be as

goofy as you

are after I have my surgery! What did you have done, it looks like lower to me?

I'm in MN too, in the Twin Cities area. I'd love to find out who your OS was

and where your

surgery was, etc. I'm 27 with an open bite, 3 months into braces, was told

braces 12-18

months before surgery, will have to have a 3 piece Lefort I (upper). And I am a

mac girl

too! I'd love to chat! Feel free to e-mail me, cori_wilbur@.... Hope your

healing is

going well!

Wow! Thanks for the photos!! I swelled and buised just like that

when I had my wisdom teeth removed.. I imagine I'll be swelling up

like that for this surgery as well. :)

Yep; my wisdom tooth surgery was a swell/bruisefest, too. I think I had more

bruising then and more swelling now, though. I have pictures of that surgery in

a

photo album, so we used them to show my 2 1/2 year old what I'd look like when

he

came home from Grandma's house. I suppose it helped me prepare, too.

Glad to share the joyful images of a blessed event! ;)

Hi, Cori!

I'm glad you liked the pics. I have a digital camera, so we've been snapping

away. It's

a form of therapy for me, in a way!

And I figured, well, this has to happen, so I can either cry or laugh. Past

experience

has taught me that crying is good now and then to let off steam, but in the end

I get a

headache and puffy eyes. Plus, I have a " stupid nose " that runs uncontrollably

when I

cry (I broke my nose on the playground when I was 12). So, I might as well

laugh! It

makes the endorphins flow and makes everyone feel a little better. But that's

just me!

Yep, I had my lower jaw advanced 7 or 8 mm. When I started this whole process

back

in March of 2003, my ortho thought I'd need both top and bottom done because I

had

an open bite, too. The OS thought I'd need upper only. When it came time for

my

pre-op consultation, the OS said the braces had fixed the open bite and all he

had to

do was fix the resulting overbite. ??? That was unexpected news, but I was

happy

about it because it meant less time in the hospital, less money, etc.

I had the most WONDERFUL surgeon!! His name is Dr. Mark Omlie, and his practice

is

called Oral & Maxillofacial Specialists (I think). If you type his name into

DexOnline,

you'll find his number. He has offices in Eden Prairie, Edina, Burnsville, and

Wayzata.

He did my wisdom teeth, too. I can't begin to tell you how great he is (we'll

have to

chat!). The surgery was done at Fairview Southdale. Everyone there was GREAT,

especially the pre-op nurses. They were incredibly funny, which I think helped

keep

my blood pressure low. :)

I had an incredible phobia about dentists until I moved to the Cities five years

ago. I

knew I had to have this corrective work done done, but I was in NO hurry, let me

tell

you! The difference has been the people I've worked with along the way, from my

dentist to my ortho to my surgeon. I could't have gone through with it all if I

didn't

trust that they were the best professionally. Plus, they are some of the

kindest people

I know.

Let's definitely chat! It's so cool that you're from the same area AND a Mac

girl!

YEAH! :)

Thanks for posting all the pictures! If I wasn't banded shut I would

have had a big laugh, because you look alot like I do right now!

Which is rather reassuring. And its great to hear that you have very

little swelling 11 days post op! Thanks again! And best of luck with

continued recovery!

Hey, !

Uh...did you see the pics from the day after surgery? :) Thank you for the

compliment. I guess my swelling/bruising comes on hard and strong and drops off

pretty fast, too. My jaw joint is killing me right now!!

I had just lower advancement (7-8 mm). Compared to what some of you are going

through, it wasn't much. I was supposed to have both, but the braces fixed the

problem with the upper. Thank God--I think I would have had a meltdown if I

would

have had both jaws worked on at once. I have this fear that they're going to

say, " You

know what, we REALLY should have done the upper after all. How's next Friday? "
