Guest guest
I happen to like the Nectar protein shakes (Fuzzy Navel and Apple Ecstasy yummy!) that you can get just about anywhere. You can order samples at www.vitalady.com for $2 each so you can find out for sure if you like them or not. T. Guest guest
Hi Mandy, You are not alone with the hating the liquid protien. There are so many products to choose from and they are all so different. Which one do you use? Carb Solutions tastes good and so does EAS already packaged. I've recently bought a 6 lb. bucket from Costco that is truely good and can also be used in place of flour for baking. You are almost 3 weeks out and you really don't need to worry so much about liquid protien now anyway. I would concentrate on getting fluids in and other nutrition while recovering and resting from the surgery. Also, try to get the food protien in when you eat if it's tolerable. I think right now, 1 egg soft cooked is a good choice and it's 7 grams of protien! Develed eggs were a good choice for me at that stage, though I could only eat 1/2 of one, it was good. A slice of soft cheese or even 2 oz. of cottage cheese is a good choice and has plenty of protien. When you start eating soft foods, the sliced ham and turkey is a good choice of protien. Just consider those things and in a couple month's, you may want to try a protien shake again or even a different brand just to fill a void if you don't feel like eating food. Good luck with your choices, there are truely many good ones. Suzq 4/28/03 Open RNY 282/195/130 > I hate liquid protein. Any suggestions? Guest guest
Hi , This could just be in my case and I would definalty ask your dr about this...However, For 3 weeks i was on a MAJOR plateau starting at about 6 weeks out. (seemed longer) But I was not getting in my protein. Yesterday was the 3rd day that I got my 80+ grams of protein and low and behold the scale is moving again. I was told that anytime I hit a plateau up the protein and water...it worked for me...hope it works for you.. also i had a HORRIBLE time finding protein shakes that didnt make me sick. I bought MYOPLEX ready to drink and LOVE them...and FINALLY a powder that doesnt make me sick....designer whey...Its actually pretty good also. Good Luck Crystal 11/18/03 365/301/??? Guest guest
<< 'm new to the site. I have a couple of questions, what is the difference between soy and whey protein? And which one is best for our surgery? >> --Whey protein is considered best as it is more digestible. Also soy has estrogen-like properties and we don't need any extra estrogen as we are already havings lots of it as we lose weight. Guest guest
im having a hard time finding the high protein stuff- can you all list the name brand (besides isopure) that u use? and its protein count? Thanks! sarah castro
Guest guest
I personally like Unjury (www.unjury.com). It has 20 grams of protein and 90 calories. The chocolate is yummy (I tolerate milk just fine so I actually mix mine in skim milk) and the vanilla is not too bad either. They have an unflavored that comes in handy too (I put it in my crystal light during the day sometimes -- it's 80 calories). You cannot find it in stores (you have to order it online). It's the best tasting out of the 12,000 that I've tried! I recently tried another new one that is a lot like Isopure BUT it's only 2.7 ounces, 100 calories, and you get 25 grams of protein out of that tiny amount. Again, you have to order those online at www.profect.com. They all taste the same to me (even though there are 4 different flavors). Guest guest
I use Pro Complex which has 55grams protein for a 2 scoop serving...but since we only absorb approx 25 grams at a time I only use one scoop at a time. Im also going to try champion pure stack whey protein on the advice of some other post ops. I also do a protein bar for breakfast which has 23 grams of protein. Its called Carb Solutions. Im weaning myself off these as they are high calorie 260....and I want to learn to eat real food supplemented with the shakes. Guest guest
, one of the best places to go for protein, IMO, is www.vitalady.com. I think it is one of the best for 2 reasons--Vitalady ( Curran) had our surgery 11 years ago, and will not sell any product that is not OK for us, and, you can buy samples of any brand/flavor that she sells--so you don't have to commit a lot of money to a big container of something you may not like.
