Blood Clots

Nobody that I can recall on this board had a problem with blood clots. Generally speaking, Kaiser takes many precautions: blood thinners, if necessary, certain types of compression garments.

The main thing is you have to overcome fatigue and the pain and discomfort you feel right away and walk like a fiend. I really pushed myself, because I was afraid of getting the blood clots. SO, I walked the hospital wards pretty much whenever they would let me. At first, I was with the nurses. Then I figured out how to disconnect my IV properly, and I did it with whoever was hanging out in my room with me.

The more you can get your circulation, the better. It's tempting to baby ourselves, and stay in bed...but it is absolutely essential that you find the fortitude to get up (even if it hurts) and take those walks. It makes a BIG difference.

Blood clots are no more a threat with WL surgery than with any other,

however, I am simply a layman. For questions of this nature I would

certainly ask your PCP or your surgical team.

Best to you,

Rory
