Guest guest
Hi , I started the diet the same time as PJ (about 6 months ago) To say it's a learning experience is an understatement. I'm still finding out about things i've been doing wrong or I could have done better or easier. If you go on freindship diaries website they will list out the stores that carry their product. They are mostly concentrated around the east coast. Pick a store, call to see if they have it and go grab it. I get it at Wegmans for $1.99 for a7.5 ounce packet. today i'm going to see if I can order it by the case and get a discount of some sort. I order all my flours, treats, ect off digestivewellness.com I can get the flour and some other things cheaper if I go directly to the manufacturer but I would much rather support the "little guy" in this. Plus, the lady that runs that site does an amazing job. The flour from there is EXTREMELY fine, and it makes awesome pancakes, bread, muffins, rolls, ect. About weening off the meds, I think that is a personal decision. I HATE medication. Since I got Ulcerative Colitis this is the first time in my life i've ever has to take medicine on a daily basis. So, i'm trying to ween myself off as quickly as possible without causing a reaction which would kill my progress on recovery. Just last weekend I lowered my dose of Asacol from 6 per day to 4 per day. We'll see what happens. At the start of this diet I was on Hydrocortisone and 12 asacol pills per day. It's hard not to go way too fast when you feel great, as far as eating foods you haven't tried yet and taking less meds. Just remember to go slower than you think and i'm sure you'll be fine. I'm probably weening off my meds too quickly here but there's really only one way to find out! Good luck with the diet! -UC - 1 yearSCD - 3.5 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 4 pills 3 times a day - hopefully scd will help me get off these! He did a cleanse about 2 months ago, and hasn't been the same since. We have since found that most of the herbs in the cleanse are illegals on the diet. We are looking at this as a challenge and a need to change our dietary habits. We ate healthy, but way too many carbs. I am so thankful for this forum. The dr. he went to has never heard of this diet. Too bad. I hope to bring him a good report in the future. Fortunately, we have a friend whose wife has been on it for 10 yrs. and at her last colonoscopy (she had Crohn's), the dr. said she was misdiagnosed because there were no scars. He couldn't believe she ever had CD. So, we are looking forward to my husband getting better and being able to carry on with his life. I don't know Marilyn, but my prayers are with her. What a blessing that she is able to spend this time with her mom. My question is where do I buy the nut flours, and if your local store does not carry DCCC, is there any other way to get it? Would the Friendly dairy ship it, can you make it? My husband is on the second day of the intro diet, and felling better already. He is on meds, though (Asacol and prednisone). How does one go about getting off them? Maybe it's too soon to ask. Blessings to all, Windows 7: It helps you do more. Explore Windows 7. Guest guest
So, i'm trying to ween myself off as quickly as possible without causing a reaction which would kill my progress on recovery. I have a friend who has just retired after 40 years as a nurse. She gave me some very good advice a couple of years ago when I had to wean off a medicine (not gut medicine but another biggie). She said always to wean off slowly enough that the body doesn't realize you are doing it. So I asked her how to wean off what I was taking, and then I went twice that slowly (for insurance) and got along fine.
Guest guest
Hi , I did a high-fiber bowel cleanse (I have Crohn's) and initially felt much better, however, when I did not stick to the SCD / healthy diet, my symptoms returned with a vengance. As for the prednisone, I would encourage your husband to talk to his doctor about getting off it, as prednisone can be very, very dangerous (at least it was for me.) If he has to be on a steroid, Entocort (Budesonide) is far better and is often taken for extended periods of time. Best, CC > > Hi, I am new here. My husband was dx'd with colitis.
