Guest guest
So sorry that your daughter is having a hard time. My son has less gas now than he used to before SCD. For him, I think that dairy gave him really bad gas. He's gluten intolerant, so he's been gluten free for several years before this. Could dairy be a problem too, or was it just this one episode? Kids can be so mean at that age. Liz > > To the mom out there whose 14 year old son went to homecoming, I have a question. > Does he ever get bad gas at school? > My 14 year old daughter has been on this diet for 1 year. I just had to pick her up from school. She's a freshman and very reserved and quiet. She had bad gas after lunch and boys in the class made comments. So she's in tears and it was an awful experience. She's sensitive anyway, plus has anxiety issues regarding school. It just breaks my heart. I just held her when we got home. There's nothing I can say that will help. She gets mad because she's on this diet and still has stomach problems. Maybe she will all her life. I don't know. (She has celiac disease.) > Anyway, I just wanted to vent for a minute. > I think it might be from the stew meat we ate last night. But then cost and efficiency come into play...When I used to make goat yogurt, I made half a gallon of yogurt and ended up throwing away half that volume in galactose drippings. Needless to say it's rather watery =) So I think it all depends on your personal balance between what your body tolerates and what your time and budget allows. > > > Peace =) > Alyssa 15 yo > UC April 2008, dx Sept 2008 > SCD June 2009 (restarted)No med s! >
Guest guest
I keep reading on here about not tolerating the SCD yogurt and then Liz just said that dairy gave her son gas before SCD. So could the SCD yogurt be the problem for Rach? Could that be where her gas is coming from? I guess it makes sense since I just made a batch recently and she's been eating a bowl a day and now had this really bad gas episode today. She gets so discouraged. In her mind, she's on such a strict diet and yet still has problems. It really does stink. Guest guest
What else is your daughter eating? Does she eat a lot of fruit/fruit juice? Did you go through the rigmarole of adding one new food every few days to see if it caused problems? The only time I've had excess gas was during die off and when I ate something too advanced (raw cucumbers threw me off for a week last spring). Guest guest
The only 2 things that I think is causing the gas are the SCD yogurt or the almond flour. I've been using ground pecans all year and lately have tried doing stuff with the almond meal and it is wonderful. Things actually look normal that I baked. But I'm wondering if that is causing the gas. She does eat fruit , not fruit juices. We are a year into the diet. She's pretty advanced at this point with what she eats. Can this be die off at a year on the diet? If so, how long does it last and what can I do for her? Guest guest
I apologize for adding another hit here but I have one more question. How many things with nuts do you all eat in a day? She eats waffles and muffins each day. I'd love to try the souffle bread but then that's another thing with nuts she'd be eating. She also eats fruits, veggies and eggs/meat/chicken daily. But I just have been wondering if she eats too much stuff made from the nuts. Guest guest
The only nuts I am eating are chestnuts and coconut. They seem to be kind of safe for me. I eat one or the other in virtually every meal. Cheers! Guest guest
Marla My digestion can only cope with one serving of a nut flour muffin or bread per day(doesn't tolerate pancakes or any of the SCD cookies at all) and I have to use a mix of nut flours as my digestion also won't tolerate 100% almond flour. I don't eat whole nuts. On bad digestive symptom days I don't touch a nut flour muffin as that will just make things worse. My symptoms are primarily upper GI, but I do get constipation. And I also get gas, mostly in my descending colon, when I've eaten something my digestion couldn't deal with too well or eaten too much of something within a 3-day period (that's how long it takes for food to transit my intestinal tract). It is a delicate balancing act at times, which gets complicated further when other body systems, such as your nervous system, goes wonky. Then you throw stress and hormonal shifts into the mix.... My solution is always to go back to my version of the intro. diet for a few days, then stick to soft and easy-to-digest foods for a week more. That usually clears up my digestive-related symptoms; if not, or if my abdominal pain and nausea become severe and prolonged, then I head for my doctor for tests. Kim M. Guest guest
> How many things with nuts do you all eat in a day? I am using mostly almond butter. I use a couple of tablespoons on lettuce or turnip slice or something for snacks twice a day. This is OK. When I use more nuts, in any form, it tends to be too much, but then, I'm only 3 months into this.
Guest guest
I typically have 1 nut butter brownie and 1 tbsp of almond butter a day. I'm afraid of overdoing nut products, so try to be conservative. Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > I apologize for adding another hit here but I have one more question.
