Guest guest
Trader Joe's carries a goat milk called something like Meyersburg. Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > Thanks Alyssa- A good logical answer. I know that one of the original concepts of the founders of this diet be that it be as affordable and available as possible to everyone. I think the main reason the medical community is not aware and does not get behind SCD is because there is ..well no money to be made from SCD. SCD is not linked to lots of expensive pills like Jordan Rubin's Garden of Life Makers Diet. And CCA is just a big Commercial for Pharmaceutical Companies. Sorry if I got off topic and offended anyone! > > I have never bought Goat Milk before. I will try Trader Joes, Whole Foods and Mrs Greens. If they do not have it I am sure it can be bought " online " . But sounds like all things being equal-Dripped Goats Milk Yogurt is the way to go. > > . Guest guest
Hi, I am having the same problem. I've been doing the SCD for about 3 months (with great results) but can't seem to tolerate the yogurt, even when I make it with the trader joe's goats milk. I guess I just have to wait a bit longer and then try again? > > I have been on SCD since 8/6/09. For the first month I was making very good progress and my CD was almost symptom free. After the first month my yogurt maker arrived and I started making SCD yogurt exactly as instructed. For the past two months my digestion has not been as good with pain, gas and cramps after eating. I still have very occasional D, maybe once a week at most. I have started taking S boulardi. I know it may be the 2-3 month flare but it is going on a long time. I read that CD is a two year " cure time " . I follow the diet with the required " fanatical adherance " . I have BTVC and am sorry that the author has now passed away. I would have loved to Thank her. After 30 plus years of CD I discover that there is a diet that makes a big differene after all. > > As of today I am going to stop taking the yogurt and see if I improve again. > > I have had CD since 1977 but have had some periods of remission. However since July 2008 my CD came back and I lost 30lbs bringing my weight to 150lbs. (I am a 6ft man.) Right now I am not too concerned about gaining the weight back, I think this will come with healing. > > I am thinking my progress is being impaired by the SCD yogurt, that I somehow do not tolorate it. I have noticed that the cheesecake does not seem to agree with me, even though it is listed on the Intro diet. Maybe I just need to be more patient with this diet. > > I hope I can take the SCD yogurt, if not now but in the future because it is such a big part of SCD. > > Any insight is greatly appreciated. Do somepeople do SCD without the yogurt? This is a great forum. > > Thanks to all. > > > > CD since 7/77 > SCD snce 8/09 >
Guest guest
I should also note that I have been on and off the SCD for 10 years. Earlier on when I started the SCD I could tolerate as much yogurt as I wanted ... now I can't even handle small quantities :-( > > > > I have been on SCD since 8/6/09. Guest guest
This has been a bad week for me. I just bought my TJ goat Milk today to make a batch (dripped). How do you know it is the yogurt that does not agree? I thought the SCD cows milk yogurt was my culprit but symptoms, pain gas and D have continued since stopping the yogurt. Wish I could get over this proverbial New York pot hole and get back on track with SCD. I had been doing so well and though I was well on the way to "a cure". Guest guest
I started the SCD 10 years ago and immediately introduced the cows milk yogurt in large quantities with no problems whatsoever. In fact, I felt even better after introducing it. I subsequently fell off the SCD wagon (several times) before finally getting serious about it 3 months ago. I have tried introducing yogurt on several occasions in the past 3 months and each time I started to feel like I was about to flare. For me, my GI system starts making a lot of gurgling sounds -- possibly because of strictures -- and I feel generally crappy. My understanding is that you have to reach a certain point in the healing process before you can tolerate the yogurt because it contains such large quantities of probiotics that it can swing the balance of your intestinal flora too much in the other direction. Of course, this is all from my limited perspective :-) > > > > I have been on SCD since 8/6/09. For the first month I was making very good progress and my CD was almost symptom free. How do you know it is the yogurt that does not agree?___Process of elimination. It might be something else. In any case, before you start goat milk'syogurt, I'd stop for a few days - 3, 4 days, up to a week. If you are still getting symptoms, then that is probably not it. And you have to eliminate something else.Have you gone back to intro? It is easier to figure these things out when you areon intro again. And work up - very, very slowly from that point. Mara
Guest guest
Couldn't some of the symptoms from the yogurt come from die off, rather than not tolerating it? Guest guest
I stopped the Yogurt last Wednesday and am still getting symptoms, so maybe this is just the 3 month flare up? I sure hope so and hope it does not last much longer. I saw a post that Val has been having symptoms for 7 weeks-poor thing. I had to go back to taking Prednisone today 30mg a day and will be on this about a month to ween off it. I have always responded well to Prednisone in the past. I have been following the intro diet since last week, just with some added bananas. I made the chicken soup today, more like chicken and carrot soup, but really hearty and delicious! I will try the Goat yogurt starting in small amounts. Thanks, K. This has been a bad week for me. I just bought my TJ goat Milk today to make a batch (dripped).
