A week ago I went down from 6 pills a day to 4 pills a day of Asacol. Unfortunatly i'm having a reaction to going on this lower dose. Nothing I can't handle, but i'm def not as good as I was. What's strange is that I see blood after only a week. Not sure how it got to that point so quickly, but it's only streaks. At first I wanted to just wait this out and see if it's just a shock on my body from going so low on meds so quickly, but now i'm thinking maybe I need to be on 6 pills until I heal more.

Can anyone offer an opinion? I haven't changed any foods i've been eating.-UC - 1 yearSCD - 3.5 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 4 pills 3 times a day - hopefully scd will help me get off these! No more Hydrocortisone or Prednisone! Windows 7: It works the way you want. Learn more.

Yep.

Get back on the pills and start LDN.

You'll get better faster and then you

can come off all the pills.

In the meanwhile, make some broth and

go easy on the food for a few days - some

softer foods, etc.

Hi

,

My 2

cents: if you’re seeing blood and you weren’t before, I’d go

back on the full dosage for awhile – at least a couple of weeks. When you

get ready to start reducing again, try just removing one pill from a single dose

and wait a week. When I was reducing my meds, I found that the time of day made

a huge difference for me. I could reduce my morning doses without seeing any

changes, but if I reduced my evening dose, I saw problems right away. So –

you may want to experiment with that, too.

That

said, don’t be in too much of a hurry to reduce your meds. They help keep

the inflammation down so your body can heal. I was on sulfasalazine 2 pills, 3

times a day, and it took me a year to get off them. I got down to 2 pills with

dinner after about 8 months and stayed at that dosage for about 3-4 months. I

might have been able to eliminate them sooner, but I didn’t want to

compromise the healing that had taken place.

Thanks, already went back on the full dose. Might have to go higher for a short time since I may have stopped the healing process by going so low, but we'll see :)-UC - 1 yearSCD - 3.5 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 4 pills 3 times a day - hopefully scd will help me get off these!

What is LDN? I have seen it mentioned several times.

Hi ,

From what I've read about people stopping meds on SCD, the few examples are of

people who have been on SCD a long time and have not have symptoms for a long

time. Then they slowly taper. For me, I feel it is too soon. I plan on taking

this slow. Hope you feel better.

I second the LDN. It is comparably safe and probably packs a bit more of a

punch than Asacol. I myself am trying to get on LDN so I can get off the

steroids.
