Hi Sue

It is good to hear that randy is on the road to recovery. As he continues to lose weight his sugars will get better. Please let us know how his progress goes.

We just got back from UCLA where two doctors gave him a once over.He has lost 13 pounds since the morning of surgery 13 days ago! The docs did say to stop vites for a couple days, his allergic reaction might be the vites or the keflex.... stranger things have happened. He starts stage 2 tomorrow, the milk and bit of banana or strawberry are just fine. Less than 90 cals plus the cals in the protein powder. Less than 200 total per serving. Actually the milk and banana are vitamins in their own rite. He is still broken out and it makes his sugar high...over 200 so he takes insulin and a glucophage and checks four to five times a day. He likes the bottle isopure but the powder was not as good. The docs were a lot surprised that the steroid shot Saturday did not clear up the rash, its not bloody raw anymore, just all over and raised and itchy! UCLA says 1000 cals are needed to survive, he is at about 500 or 600 now. But liquid intake is great and no nausea about anything

and he is not hungry at all. I eat dinner, he has soup and its not mean at all to him....save the darn rash he would be a textbook case for WLS success SO FAR! No pain meds at home at all, happy as a clam, one day was a little cranky...but he was prepared so it was fine....no surprises. Yes, UCLA LOVES protein! They say 100 grams a day is optimal! They hate the FLINTSTONE vitamin plan, but today both docs said try it in a day or so and see how it goes. The Benadryl is sugar free but I think it raises his sugar too, I'll call dermatology tomorrow. Anyway, all is good! Thanks for caring!
