Guest guest
Why? I thought the yogurt had to be fermented 24 hours just for lactose intolerance. What about cocoa. Why can't we have regular, unsweetened cocoa? To: BTVC-SCD From: jodah235@...Date: Fri, 30 Oct 2009 20:21:23 +0000Subject: Re: Fage yogurt? Sorry, No.Jodi>> I am not lactose intolerant. Guest guest
All yogurt has to be fermented 24 hours to get rid of the lactose because, even if you are not lactose intolerant, lactose is a sugar that feeds unwanted intestinal bacteria. So we can't have it, sorry. Ditto for cocoa. Elaine spent a lot of time figuring out which foods were safe, and which ones bacteria feed on, so cocoa is out. PJ > > > > I am not lactose intolerant. Guest guest
, Once you get a routine down it does get easier. Yogurt is like pure medicine for us- that is the one thing you shouldn't skimp on and be like " ehh.. maybe store bought " It's so not worth it cutting corners.. just doesn't work. Guest guest
Ok, fine, no more cocoa added to my peanut butter brownies. I will go back to making the yogurt too. I wish though that I could find DCCC or farmer's cheese. NO ONE SELLS IT!!! I tried numerous places in my area. I live in Moline, Illinois. Any help out there on this? I did not think I was lactose intolerant when I started SCD. I learned differently. Cocoa is a starch comprised of 36% amylose and 64% amylopectin. If you read the section about " starch " in Chapter 5 of BTVC, you'll realize that the amylopectin is one of the more complex starch chains; ergo, not good for our guts. I have tried several times (unwilling to accept the science) to make chocolate sweetened with honey, despite the fact that Elaine insisted that it was not merely a matter of the sugar used in candy making. Once was okay. The second time, I had diarrhea within a very short time. Subsequent experiments have demonstrated in other ways that the chocolate happily feeds the remaining bad bacteria in my gut. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
2 lbs. peeled chopped tomatoes 1/2 onion diced 6 cloves garlic minced salt and pepper to taste 1 cup chopped basil 2 TBS chopped parsley Saute onion and garlic in a little olive oil until translucent. Add tomoates, basil, parsley, and salt/pepper. Reduce heat to medium low to low, cover and cook about 45 minutes. To thicken it up, you might want to leave the lid off. If you'd like a smooth sauce, either puree with an immerssion blender or blend in batches in a blender. Recipe adapted from Raman Prasad. Guest guest
, Depends, does spaghetti sauce mean red sauce for you? If not, can you do butter-- or ghee? Then one of the yummiest sauces is browned butter with minced garlic. I did a sauce along these lines w spaghetti squash, yum.By now, you've probably made something yum. Or, how bout pesto? Tomatoes are not so great right now, thinking of alternatives.Re: Fage yogurt?Posted by: " Gramenz" gramenz0919@... sjgramenzFri Oct 30, 2009 1:46 pm (PDT)Anyone have any good and quick spaghetti sauce recipes? Or a combo of oil and ghee/butter if you can use that.
