Guest guest
Hi CC, I am guessing that during your 3 years of not being on SCD has led to an over population of bad bacteria and what you are experiencing is die-off every few weeks. I too have Crohn’s and for the first few *years* on the SCD I had flares, more times than I can count. My flares were always D and candida overgrowth (white, coated tongue). I can’t really speak to your situation of doing the SCD, then going off it, then returning to it. I am just guessing that you now have more resistant critters to deal with because the ones that didn’t die were fed their favorite foods. Don’t beat yourself up – just keep on going. I’m sure you know the drill by now – soft, easy to digest foods when flaring, bone broths, etc. Are you taking a legal probiotic to help repopulate your gut? I hope you get to feeling better soon. I know how cr@ppy those flares are. Carol CD 21 yrs SCD 5 yrs From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of capecodling Dumb me ... I fell off the SCD wagon several years ago, but enjoyed a long 3 year drugs-free remission where I could eat whatever I wanted thanks to the SCD. On my 3rd week of the SCD (this time around) I had a flare. I also had a bad flare at week 6. Now at week 12, I still can't tolerate the yogurt either and am having to take full steroids combined with the SCD to prevent myself from flaring. It seems like either one (steroids by themself OR SCD by itself) would not keep things under control, although I have not tried the SCD by itself yet. Doing the steroids by themself landed me in the hospital. Any general advice? Perhaps the SCD just takes longer to kick in the second, third, and fourth time around! Guest guest
Thank you for the reply. You are right -- I do need to repopulate my gut in such a BIG way! Are there some SCD recommended probiotics? Obviously I am not quite ready for the Yogurt ... perhaps the ones on Lucy's Kitchen would be good? > > Hi CC, I am guessing that during your 3 years of not being on SCD has led to > an over population of bad bacteria and what you are experiencing is die-off > every few weeks. Guest guest
I take the probiotic from Lucy’s Kitchen. When I 1st started taking them I could only take 1 every other day (but I was also eating the SCD yogurt daily). The directions say to take 2-3/day, but I could never handle that much. KirkmanLabs.com also carry probiotics. The only 3 strains allowed on SCD are L. acidophilus, L. bulgaricus and S. thermophilus.
