Guest guest
Hi , I am from the Grand Rapids, Mi area. Currently, I have started speaking with another woman about getting a West Mich support group together. There is already one on the east side, but I can never make it over for meetings. What area are you from? My daughter is also 7, and severely neurologically affected by an unknown mito condition. She also has intractable (not well controlled) epilepsy. Both neuro impairment and uncontrolled seizures put stress on the area of the brain that regulates horomones, this can cause early signs of puberty to show, especially in females. Menses may or may not come early. Chelsea developed breast buds at 3 yrs and started getting pubic hair and BO at 5yrs. But that is it so far. This has been discussed on the list, so you are definatly not alone. And, yes, it was quite disturbing, but I got used to it, as I have had to with so many other issues. Can't help much on the school issue. Fortunatly, Chelsea goes to a wonderful school and I have never had a problem with her IEP. But you should definatly get some good advice here, if you haven'y already. Feel free to email me privatly, if you wish. jayvelde@... e, Chelsea's mom(nonspecific mito)
Guest guest
HI Laurie, The nutritionist at SSF said that a woman should be eating around 65 grams of protein and the calorie range about 900. Ramona
Guest guest
Hi everyone! I'll be five weeks out tomorrow. I just today started using fitday again to track my intake. I was wondering how much protein, how many calories, and maybe how many carbs (but mostly the first two), everyone is getting in a day. Especially if you are a month or two out, but really, if people at all stages post op would reply, that would be great. I'm also wondering what's up with all the Richmond people who are eating two ounce meals at a few months out? Is that really what Richmond recommends?? Wow, amazing. On stage three through Fremont, we are being told to eat at least half a cup, and to eat from all food groups at every meal. Are you guys being told to consume only protein?? It has been said before, but it is amazing the difference between locales. Thanks!!!! Laurie five weeks tomorrow ____________________________________________________ Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs
Guest guest
While I was never given a calorie count, protein count etc...Richmond did say protein only and if you were still hungry a bite or two of veggies...and thats it. I now however do two protein shakes a day. Here is a sample of my day so far: 6AM: woke up took iron and vitamin c, worked out on treadmill 35 min 8AM: yogurt and a small apple for breakfast 9AM: decaf coffee/water 10AM: water 11AM: protein shake 12NOON: one hardboiled egg, string cheese, cup of lettuce salad 100: water 2:00: protein shake 300: cantaloupe and yogurt 400: water 500: continue water 630: dinner: usually 2-3 oz protein, and some veggies 730: water 830: No sugar added hot chocolate before bed Now I am two years out as of this Friday and this is when Im behaving! Hope this helps you. Huggles > > Hi everyone! I'll be five weeks out tomorrow. Guest guest
Well, we're certainly encouraged to mainly eat protein at this point, although we can have soft vegetables (cooked) and fruits and toast...the thing is, with only 2 oz. to eat...that doesn't leave a lot of room for protein. SO yeah, that's mainly what I eat at this point, and I'm 10 weeks out. I don't have my "three month" until the end of Sept. which will really be more like 15 weeks out...perhaps things will change at that point. I know eventually we go to 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup... Guest guest
, your eating plan sounds perfect to me. I know how much you are struggling, how hard you are trying. Your plan sounds healthy and satisfying. Thanks for your reply! I was afraid I wouldn't get an answer because everyone is still wrapped up in the other goings on, so thanks! Guest guest
It's not that hard...when you aren't used to more. Although I am tired ALL of the time. I'm muscular, and my muscle is turning to jello, even though I'm working out a lot. That concerns me. I don't think I'm getting enough protein in. Guest guest
Ramona...at what point are those ranges (65 grams of protein and calories about 900) relevent? Right now, I doubt seriously that I'm anywhere near those two ranges. I think I probably eat about 60 to 75 calories a day in SF popsicles, about 500 or 600 at the most in all of the other food. And, probably only getting way less protein than I should . Without shakes, it simply isn't possible (even if you eat 6 oz. of protein, and that's all you eat...it isn't 65 grams.) Guest guest
Protein drinks. Go to www.vitalady.com and order a bunch of samples. I know you said you had problems drinking them in the past. Try experimenting with the amount of water (NOT milk) you mix them with, as well as the temperature of the water. That way you'll be cranking up your protein intake, in a form your body can absorb readily. Robynn VanPatten wrote: > It's not that hard...when you aren't used to more. Guest guest
Not really sure. With my two shakes a day I get in about 55 grams, then add my food in with that. The menu I showed you I did today and it was a total of 929 calories. > > OH... > PS do you know how many g protein you get per day? > Or how many you try for? > L. > > __________________________________________________ >

Guest guest
Oh yeah, that's right, you're Richmond. I know they don't believe in protein drinks. With all due respect to them, I will say that when I was researching my own surgery, I found that the VAST majority of successful longterm posties were doing protein drinks. Hm, maybe if I want what they got, maybe I should do what they do, know what I mean? But I guess Dr. Fisher was right, those protein drinks are making me so fat! Oops, is that a touch of sarcasm? Guest guest
When I saw you in Oakland you hadn't thrown up in a while. So it has come back? I'm sorry. Did you try Pascha's suggestion and eat a cracker or soemthing with your protein? I notice that helps me when I feel urpy. And I did have my very first post op vomit experience a couple days ago. So the other shoe has dropped. LOL Laurie __________________________________________________

Several months ago now I put on a new pair of pants, and was looking at myself in the full-length mirror which was near the door to my hubby's office. He cracked up when he heard me say " Where the hell's my ASS? " Now, given that I have always carried most of my excess in my posterior, this was a totally new discovery, that my butt was GONE! I had to smile. The other evening, Isaac (son who turns five in a couple of weeks) was talking about what we eat, and I explained that there were certain foods we don't eat very much any more, because they make us fat. He looked at me, touched my arm (which is fairly thin) and said something like " But you're not fat, you're skinny! " I'm very grateful that he doesn't remember me fat. He doesn't remember when I didn't go out with him, because I couldn't keep up with him. He is a very large part of why I had the surgery! -- Eleanor Oster eleanor@... Guest guest
HI Robyn, I went to the Support group meeting in Santa Clara This month and that was one of the topics we touched bases on. The facilitator of our group is the nutritionist from the Bariatric program in SSF. So the information is accurate. The thing to remember is that it is so important to make sure that you do get enough protein because that is where our bodies get the majority of our fuel for our daily needs. When there is not enough then it will look for other sources and it will target the muscles. That could explain why your muscles are not firming up the way you would like them to. Guest guest
Hi: I spoke to Beth yesterday at the Nutrition class in Richmond and she said if anyone has any written proof that people do better in the long term if they drink protein shakes that she would like to see it...Do you have anything you can send me...would definitely pass it on...I have heard the same thing in my support group in Oakland, which is tonight and am going to ask them for proof too.... I have not had surgery yet or even met my goal (only been 2 weeks since my orientation), but would like to get this clear before then.....
