Do you have any other SCD friendly Russian recipes? My youngest son is adopted

from Russia and we like to eat Russian food sometimes. The only recipes I know,

besides Borscht and cabbage salad, are not okay for SCD. I made Pelmeni today

and it was very sad for my other son and me to not get to eat any. I made some

meat pies (not sure what they are called) with an almond flour crust and they

were good, but not very authentic tasting.

Thanks!

Liz

Hi Liz, I will be glad to help. If he is old enough, he can tell what he liked and I will give you the recipe... but, how old is he? and where are you located? And where is he from (what part of Russia), that way it'll be easier to figure out what he is accustom to...

Thank you!

We make Pelmeni, but I can't make that SCD. I also used to make Plov a lot and

little meat pies in a pastry crust. Salad Olivie (spell?) and cabbage rolls

(Golubsti?) are also favorites. I don't know how I could convert any of these

into SCD safe.

My son was adopted at 6-1/2 and is now 12-1/2. He came from the Tomsk Region.

The aboves, along with the cabbage salad, are his favorites.

What I'm really looking for are new recipes that are SCD safe so that all of us

(6 in our family) can enjoy Russian food together.

Thanks,

Liz

Hi Liz, how interesting... my son is 12 as well, maybe they can talk over the phone (he can practice his Russian as well as my son ). Let me create something like a file with all Russian style food, which I converted for my kid. You know age matters, something they like at 6, they will not like at 12. And Tomsk is not exactly very wealthy place. But give me a day and I'll send it your way.

Just in case he wants to cmmunivate: (home), his name is .

Thank you ! My son doesn't remember more than a few words of Russian,

sadly. (He kept his Russian name, Nikita, but he is very American otherwise!) I

tried to keep it up with him, but he had a very hard time learning English and

we had to go with just one language. My 16 year old daughter is taking Russian

in school, hoping to help him relearn some things.

He has a good memory of Russian food. He is great about eating all kinds of

salads (cucumber, tomato and sour cream is his favorite) and stuff that my other

kids won't even try. My husband takes him to a Russian store nearby and lets him

get a few different foods every couple of months. He isn't the one on SCD, but

I try to make mostly food that we can all eat, especially main dishes.

I'll be looking forward to seeing some new recipes!

Thanks again,

Liz

Hello Liz,

It's nice that he has such a big an carring family. My son was born here, but we keep language (he is very American, too) and my daughter was 5 when we moved to States, but now she is 20 and 3rd eyar in college, still can read and write on Russian - I am just very proud, sorry... :)

Anyway, I created a file, spell is off (it's broken on my laptop). Look at it and if you need more explanations, just let me know.

Really hope you'll be able to use it.

The obvious solution is for you to put together a cook book of

SCD-Russian recipes!

Hi Mara, I would not dare... :)) I am not a good cook. I also am trying to fit my son's taste (who is all American boy). Only really Russian person in my house - my hubby, who owns Russian store.. :))

I have many recepie books at home, so I can translate some, if there is an interest.
