Guest guest
I awoke this morning, went to pee, passed what I thought was gas only to discover some B’dy chunks in the toilet. Shortly thereafter I passed a B’dy pile of mush. Then, another round of B’dy chunks. Needless to say I freaked and got upset because I have not passed B or B’dy mush for at least 2 years, or that I can remember. The B was dark, purplish red and I’m pretty sure it came from my transverse colon as it felt a little sore this a.m. Granted, it’s only been 7 months since I eliminated all illegals (crocosmellose in a multi-vit. & boswellia in a herbal anti-inflammatory that I did not realize were illegal). 7 months ago I got a laptop, and found this wonderful group. Over the course of the last few days I have been eating a lot of vegetable beef soup made with bone broth. This is the first time in years that I added cabbage to the soup (quite a lot). I don’t think the problem is with the cabbage – but I don’t know. I complained to my DH yesterday that my knee had been hurting for a few days. He said “your Crohn’s is active”. I was in denial- “No it’s not”. Well, yes, apparently it is. So, I’ll stick with soft foods, broth without the vegetables, yogurt, eggs for a few days. I just wanted to vent. I am so bummed out. Guest guest
Carol, Hang in there! This sounds exactly what happened to me in 5/09. I had been marching along for about 5 years with mild symptoms, when one night I went to the bathroom and BAM! out of nowhere tons of bright, red blood. I too, got upset and panicked. I had just started a new position at work about a week prior and was worried this would result in me losing it. I too still am unsure what caused it - maybe I had been eating more salads for lunch or maybe it was some illegal balsamic vinegar - not sure. But, I stayed home for a day, went to Urgent Care (probably unnecessary - but good to get my blood checked as it had been a while) and then like within 2-3 days - GONE! For me, it happened again randomly about 2 weeks later, but I've been fine ever since. I think these random events can and may happen to us...I sort of believe it's just our body trying to get our attention b/c maybe we've strayed a bit in our diet or managing stress or change. I know it's easier said than done, but stay strong, trust and know you have the tools and knowledge and support to get through it!! I reverted to the chicken soup/broth and am quite sure it helped me heal so quickly. Guest guest
Hi Carol, I'm new to this, but obviously sad to hear about your episode. I think it goes to show that we are vulnerable. I'm hoping that this episode is short, and resolves quickly. I still believe that being on SCD prevents a lot of this. I ate mustard greens for the first time, after many days of " trophies " and, yes, I ate too many of them. The next day- mush, a little mucous and some cramps. I've been on SCD about 6 months. Seems we get brave enough to test the waters with something new. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I think our bodies are still vulnerable to new foods, stress, changes. I've also noticed that when my GI system is " off " so are my emotions. For me, I think the GI starts it, not the other way around. It is so scary to see blood. I hope with soup and bland foods that things settle down for you. I know it is possible to have flares in the first year of SCD. Hang in there and keep us posted. Feel better soon. Guest guest
It could be the buildup of eating cabbage over a few days in a row.Sometimes one is fine with a food eaten one day - but repeating theperformance the next day is a problem - so the food must be spacedout over several days. Which is frustrating when it's a hard stew andyou just want to have some comfort food a few days in a row. Butso be it.Also, IME, this kind of reaction doesn't happen overnight but takesplace over several days - so look for a reaction from something youate maybe 4-10 days earlier. Guest guest
Hi Carol, Not that this is the same thing as you.. But I always get blood in my stool when I start getting better. It is the oddest thing. I attribute it to my rectal area not having being used to normal stool and me needing to adjust.. I get mucous in stool when I have emotional stress.. which has been a lot lately for me. Anyway.. not that this exactly pertains to you but thought I'd throw it out there anyway. Guest guest
I so agree with everything that Mara wrote.. I experience this myself.. that is why food rotation is so invaluable for me. Guest guest
Thank you both, Mara & Jodi, I got to craving cabbage after not eating any for 5 years. I ate cabbage in the soup 3 days in a row. It never occurred to me that my body might not be able to handle it, if indeed that was the cause. I won’t be doing that again. My BMs have actually been a little red too the past two days, but I think it's either the flu or the jank fillers that are bound to be in the Tamifllu =( Do you think that maybe your immune system is a little stressed from it being flu season, and maybe that's why you have B? Guest guest
Aw Carol... *HUG* As much as it sucks to see blood, I'll bet you're right about the cabbage. I'm guilty of the cabbage binge as well... and I had the same results each time. I love cabbage, cabbage does not love me back... yet. Perhaps if I could learn moderation.. *grin* While in the hospital with I grabbed a slice of pineapple they'd put on his plate. For the next 3 days I passed blood and chunks every time I peed. was awesome... he just looked at me and said, " you knew better, next time throw it out before you're tempted. " No sympathy for Mom, LOL. Now that you know about cabbage, will you try it again in moderation to see if you have a reaction to just a little of it or will you avoid it altogether? I know, I usually try a little bit again after I'm not bleeding just to see if I can tolerate it at all. Right now, just a few bites of cabbage, pineapple or raw plums give me a few days of bleeding. Vent away m'dear. Sometimes this stuff sucks and as bad as it sounds it feels better to know we're not alone. Guest guest
Thanks Alyssa, No, I don’t think it’s flu related… it just caught me by surprise after so long of having “normal” bm’s… Plus, I take Lauricidin – I don’t think the flu virus would stand a chance! That stuff kills everything. I hope you’re feeling better from the flu. Do you know if it was the H1N1? Are you OK? Carol From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of Alyssa Luck Bummer! Guest guest
Yes, moderation *sigh*- even with legal foods. I ate way too many mustard greens. They were cooked but still a lot of roughage.I used to be able to eat tons and tons of salad, and fresh fruit of all kinds... but no more PJ > > > > > >I awoke this morning, went to pee, passed what I thought was gas only to > >discover some B'dy chunks in the toilet. Guest guest
Thanks Rhonda, This is such an awesome group. I feel so much better. I *might* try cabbage again, in the far distant future…It never occurred to me that I would react to any legal SCD food, having been on the diet for 5 years – silly me. Oh well, never too old to learn. What is ‘moderation’? It is not in my vocabulary LOL! Guest guest
I hope you’re feeling better from the flu. Do you know if it was the H1N1? Are you OK?I'm still sick, but it's not so bad. I think my bro and mom had it worse. I think it's probably H1N1 since I got the regular flu vaccine, but not the h1n1 vaccine. I " merely " have IBS, so I don't see blood but if I ate more than a couple spoonsful of any kind of greens (which I love) I would spend the next day in the bathroom for sure. Sometimes just a little bit is the right amount.
