Guest guest
Hey everyone I don't intend to upset anyone here, but not all teachers are wonderful, caring and hardworking. And I hate to say this, but I get a little tired of teachers complaining about their pay. Their pay really is not all that bad, and I guess if they want to complain, find another job. I have met far more good teachers than bad, but I have come across one that made things very difficult for 4 months, when I decided I wasn't going to send Colby to a teacher that did some very off the wall things. Colby is really not mainstreamed too much anymore. Which is fine. He is in middle school and he wouldn't get to much out of most of the classes. I hope I didn't step on any one's toes, and if I did your welcome to let me have it! mom to Colby,14,COXIV,LCHAD,ACC,ADHD ,hypothroidism and osteopenia. Guest guest
I doubt that there is *any* job or profession that doesn't have its share of the good, the bad and the ugly! All of us are experts on teachers because all of us have been recipients of their services! To put teacher pay into perspective .... sorry .... just had to bite! :-) I will use Canadian figures because that is what I know .... but I am sure that the comparison works anywhere. If both parents work out of the home, they would pay a babysitter $5.00 per child per hour to the babysitter. Although the parents may feel the pinch from these "fees", they consider that it is a cost of having good care for their children AND two incomes! The average teacher has 30 students from 9:00am to 3:00pm (6 hours). A teacher teaches for 195 days per school year. Let's do the math! 30 students x $5.00 x 6 hrs x 195 days = $175,500.00! That is just for child care at the rate that you would pay a baby sitter. But ...... a teacher is supposed to TEACH!!!!! A teacher goes to university and pays to learn how to teach out of their own pocket! Granted they don't go to university for as long as doctors ...... but compare the salaries that doctors receive to the salary that a teacher receives ..... and a teacher's effect on your children is *much* more long-lasting than that of a doctor! A Canadian teacher makes an average $55,000.00 per year. A Canadian doctor averages $200,000.00 per year! A public school education is free for your children, although the system is supported by your taxes. Technically, based on the above figures, you should be paying $5,850.00 per child per year (1/30 of the teacher's salary) + your share of the salaries of the support personnel, the janitors, the bus drivers, and the maintainence of the school plant! This amount is solely for child care. What should we be paying for an education, especially when the education is to be modified to meet the needs of children with "special needs"? I am *not* complaining. My teaching days were terminated before I was ready by Mito. I didn't complain. I taught because I love kids and because I had a calling to do so ... like the majority of teachers, Not many teachers compain about their pay .... but, using the arguement presented above based upon baby sitting type child care .... perhaps they have good reason to complain. WOW ... what would our taxes be like then? Jean CARRIE CLARK wrote: Hey everyone I don't intend to upset anyone here, but not all teachers are wonderful, caring and hardworking.
