Hello Everyone!

I am looking for protein powder suggestions. I HATE

slim fast like shakes..I'm hoping there is a fruity

smooth alternative to a gritty shake!

******Change of subject*******

I just had the phone interview...WEIGHT LIFTED OFF MY

SHOULDERS!! It went really well..Make sure you know

your vitamin intake (for those who've not met w/ Joyce

or ).

I must tell you all that I am soo excited for this

surgery and EVERYONE that knows/met me knows that I am

excited too!

I do want to mention something-see if you all agree

with the statement: You can't lose weight until you

want to.

For me, this is very true. I have been told all my

life I needed to lose weight. I was in 2nd grade

weighed 144 pounds and had a teacher tell me I needed

to, but I never wanted to. I had started the classes

in April 2004 and kept going until July-but then had

my gal bladder out. I still wasn't wanting to lose

weight. After I could eat grease again..I DID! Burger

King was my lover..lol (Jk). Once I hit the ripe ol'

age of 22 something in my brain clicked-literally. I

made a call to Kaiser SSF to talk with Dr Stiles to

see if I was still eligible (I never officially quit

the classes, but I never really went during August

04-Feb 05). By the time I called I had already started

losing- doing the diet from the old binder I had.

Although I had gained all the weight I lost during my

" off " season I went to the 1st appointment 15 pounds

lighter and have been losing since!

I'll be going to the support meeting this month over

on Arden. I'm hoping I can help some discouraged GBP

(Gastric Bypass Patients) that are trying to reach

their target weight loss for surgery.

Sorry the e mail is so long...but I am glad to have

people to share my experience with!

You ALL ROCK!

> Delaina,

I hate slim fast shakes and I also ordered samples from Vitalady and hated them

all. I got Isopure and I really liked it. I got the Peach Mango (160 cal zero

carbs, and 40gprotein) Grape, and Alpine punch. I liked all of them. I bought

the indiv. bottles to check them out. They were like $3.50 a bottle at GNC. Try

those they are good. It was almost like a Crystal light or something like that.

They didnt stink to bad either. Good luck

You are so right...you cannot do this unless everything in you wants

to. You have to be ready to make these changes, if you are hesitant

it will be a struggle. Im so glad you finally want to!!

As for protein shakes I like pro complex although many dont. Im going

to try Pure Stack Champion Whey protein that Ive heard from so many

is really good. But go to vitalady.com she has lots of different ones

and samples too so you can try some before committing to a large jug.

Experiment, but remember make them with water only. And once you are

long term post op...no fruit either. Fruit and even nonfat milk add

unneeded calories and not really enough nutrition to make a

difference.

Hi Delaina,

Get samples at www.vitalady.com. Each is one serving, about 30 grams of

protein. Mix with about four ounces of water (NOT milk, no fruit), then

adjust to taste. Some people like their shakes thinner, some like them

thicker. My favorite is Champion Nutrition's Pure Whey Stack chocolate,

blended with water, ice, and some instant coffee (decaf except breakfast

shake). The Nectars tend to be fruitier, but be aware that they are an

isolate, not a blend. This means that they are absorbed more quickly and

efficiently. In my case (and I'm not alone in this) they hit TOO fast

and can cause intestinal cramping and diarrhea. If I mix them with a

blend (like the Stack), that buffers them so I have no problem.

I haven't had problems with any of the whey powder shakes seeming

gritty. I know a lot of people find the soy shakes gritty though. In

general, it's best to avoid the soy ones. They aren't as well absorbed,

and the phytoestrogens can cause problems.

Delaina, there is Isopure (not bad) which comes in

several fruit flavors, and there is Nectar (ick) also

in several fruit flavors. Hope you find something you

like! And congrats on your decision to take off the

weight!

I found a new one that I really like. I got a bunch of samples from

vitalady.com but I hated all of them and I hated Isopure. Tasted

like slime to me. Anyway, it's unjury. You can order it at

unjury.com and it comes in chocolate, vanilla, unflavored, and newly

added strawberry. If you'd like to try a sample of it before you

buy, I'd be happy to send you a packet. It's the best tasting stuff

I've found. I really enjoy my protein shake now!

Congratulations and keep up the good work!

ongratulations! And I agree whole-heartily with you,

you can't lose weight until you want to. I am on my

third day of eating just exactly what was on my food

plan. (Yah for me!) I guess I'm just ready now...

And as for the protein shakes: Pro-Complex was

recommended to me by Pacific Bariatric.

Good going Pam! 3 days so far! Just take it one day at a time and if you do happen to slip a little, don't go off the deep end. Just get back on that horse and ride on... :)
