Guest guest
Trena, as to losing weight prior to the surgery, a 2# a week loss is pretty good. The only time I lost like after the surgery was a liquid protein diet of 540 calories a day. Guest guest
My husband, newly diagnosed with colitis (on SCD 1 1/2 weeks), is losing weight. He has lost about 15# and is continuing to lose while he is on the diet. He is in Stage 2 of the diet. Is this normal? He is eating bananas, fish, squash, applesauce, at least 3 c of yogurt/day, lamb, beef, chicken soup, chicken. Is there anything else he can do? He was not real overweight to start with and is looking a little gaunt. I see recipes on no more crohns with parmesean cheese and nut flour for week one. That seems like too much for the first week. Can you give me some links eith some recipes to help him put on weight? When can he eat the cheeses that are legal? Looks like we have to get a blender. Does anyone have any ideas? Can I buy chicken breasts that are in a bag that say up to 15% broth solution for tenderness and juiciness, or do I have to buy Amish chicken? Can I buy jam without sugar, or do I have to make my own? Thanks so much, GochIndependent Consultant, Arbonne InternationalDistributor, Young Living Essential Oils
Guest guest
, It's normal to lose weight at first but for many, this does not continue once the gut starts to heal and more food is eaten. Just keep him eating. You can make the yogurt with cream or half and half which helps. You can also advance to cheese as tolerated. Nut flours are a bit more advanced. The pecanbread.com site has good information on stages, but it is dairy free for kids with autism. Chicken is a tough one, because most 15% solutions have illegal additives. There are some good chicken brands. I like on Farms and it is sometimes on special at the market- then I buy a lot and freeze it. I would avoid any chicken that is processed with broth or a 15% solution. Some people are able to get less costly organic chickens at Trader Joe's. You can not use jam, even without sugar, because it usually has illegal additives- like pectin. Commercial foods can contain up to 2% of an additive without listing it on the label. This is why we stay away from them. I just use a regular blender. I hope your husband feels better soon. PJ > > My husband, newly diagnosed with colitis (on SCD 1 1/2 weeks), is losing weight. Guest guest
Hi , Butter, coconut & olive oil, avocado are all high calorie. I put butter on everything when I was trying to gain weight. Also, butternut squash, nut butter (pecan has the most fat), eggs, yogurt made from half & half and/or cream (no additives like carageenan though). And when he can tolerate it, cheeses. You can put butter or coconut oil in soups. For me personally, it took years to put on some pounds. But everyone is different. The gut has to heal first and that sometimes takes awhile. That seems like too much for the first week.If I remember correctly, I think the 'Week 1, Week 2, etc...' on nomorecrohns isn't a guide on when to introduce foods. Rather, I think it's just a weekly cooking plan for those who can eat everything on the diet, to help plan meals and such. You're definitely right about nut flour seeming like too much for the first week! Not sure about the cheese, but anyways.. =) HTH!
