Guest guest
Actually, my older son, Sam (non-mito but has primary immune deficiency) has serious difficulty with sinus infections. I know some, including me, out there wonder if there's a connection between the primary immune deficiency and mito. Asher doesn't get too many sinus infections. Guest guest
One of my other children (no mito, but never tested) has had recurrent sinus infections since she was about 10 months old. It has even puzzled her allergist, because there are so little sinus tracts even formed at such a young age. Now she is 6 and still gets them. My mito kid has never had a sinus infection, but her fair share of allergy related problems.
Guest guest
is 6 and has had sinus infections for four years. At the first infection, we were told that she did not have sinuses and so she did not have an infection. Amazingly enough, she got better after ten days on antibiotics. The next year she got another sinus infection that required six weeks of antibiotics. The next year she developed an infection that never went away. She has been on constant, alternating antibiotics for a couple of years. She had an ethmoidectomy and now the antibiotics work better. No know allergies (except to some antibiotics and latex). Her immune panel showed that she was not immune to pneumonia even after being immunized. So who knows what is going on. We are currently trying to decide what to do about those stupid sinuses. Guest guest
Have you tried sinus/nasal washes? They are supposed to work for some people. Did not work for but.... The sinus surgeries (two of them) have not worked that well either.
Guest guest
> , has battled sinus infections her whole life. She does have neutropenia (low white cells). She recently has been daignosed with immune def. I have this also. I have actually had a sinus issue for about the last month. receives IVIG every three months ands right now I am treated with one antibiotic a day. I has helped. I had about 11 colds from last spring on. and I do not go out much but when we do we usually get sick afterward. When we went to disney last yr for make a wish, we were all sick for about a month when we came back. I am sure there is a link between mito and hypogammaglobulinemia! Our immuno doc says mito causes immuno def. and not immuno def. causes mito! But the mito docs don't back this up! Dawn

Guest guest
> How does one test for immune deficiency. Try a sweat test (for CF) and a HIST panel.
