I finally found the yogumet yogurt and creme starter recommended on the BTVC

website, but one of the listed ingredients is sucrose. Isn't that illegal? I'm

confused. Or I should say, still confused.

I would not use anything with sucrose. I get my starter from " GI prohealth " or

use Fage yogurt. There are other ones as well. Hopefully others will post here.

I ordered the wrong starter also yogourmet. I gave it to a(non SCD) friend who

is now enjoying her own yogurt.

PJ, sorry, but that's incorrect information.

In this case, it is totally legal, because it is used

by the bacteria in their fermenting process. Like

a kickstart - it's a small amount which is entirely

consumed.

The brand Yogourmet Freeze dried Yogurt Starter is ok to use.

That is what I use and my Whole Foods carries it in the refrigerated section. The

skim milk powder & sucrose get consumed by the 3 strains in the starter. I

know, I was confused about that at the start too!

I forgot to say Yogourmet also makes a starter with bifidus in

it that is not legal. The starter I use has L. bulgaricus, S. thermophilus

& L. acidophilus in it.

Sorry for any confusion.

Hi and welcome!

Here is lots of info on the SCD yogurt. Browse through the

Beginner’s Guide for other useful information too. http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/yoghurt/yoghurt.htm

My first question is: When making yogurt it's advised to use a yogurt starter

or an appropriate store bought yogurt. Can we use our own homemade yogurt as a

starter for our next batch of yogurt? If not, how come?
