Guest guest
I finally found the yogumet yogurt and creme starter recommended on the BTVC website, but one of the listed ingredients is sucrose. Isn't that illegal? I'm confused. Or I should say, still confused.
Guest guest
I would not use anything with sucrose. I get my starter from " GI prohealth " or use Fage yogurt. There are other ones as well. Hopefully others will post here. I ordered the wrong starter also yogourmet. I gave it to a(non SCD) friend who is now enjoying her own yogurt. Guest guest
PJ, sorry, but that's incorrect information. In this case, it is totally legal, because it is used by the bacteria in their fermenting process. Like a kickstart - it's a small amount which is entirely consumed. Guest guest
The brand Yogourmet Freeze dried Yogurt Starter is ok to use. That is what I use and my Whole Foods carries it in the refrigerated section. The skim milk powder & sucrose get consumed by the 3 strains in the starter. I know, I was confused about that at the start too! Carol CD 21 yrs SCD 5 yrs From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of smdsmom2008 I ordered the wrong starter also yogourmet. Guest guest
I forgot to say Yogourmet also makes a starter with bifidus in it that is not legal. The starter I use has L. bulgaricus, S. thermophilus & L. acidophilus in it. Sorry for any confusion. Guest guest
Hi and welcome! Here is lots of info on the SCD yogurt. Browse through the Beginner’s Guide for other useful information too. http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/yoghurt/yoghurt.htm Carol CD 22 yrs SCD 5 yrs From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of My first question is: When making yogurt it's advised to use a yogurt starter or an appropriate store bought yogurt. Can we use our own homemade yogurt as a starter for our next batch of yogurt? If not, how come?
