Guest guest
Hi all, Since I am pretty new to this site and have been a lurker due to trying to read all the messages posted, I was wondering if there is any one else in here that is approved and waiting to be set up for orientation out of SSF. If not any of you that are post-op and have been through the process may be able to inform us pre-ops of the process. I guess I can give a little info about me so that all of you have an idea about my situation. I am 33 years old and have a daughter that is 10 going on 18...LOL. I would like to have more children but unfortunately due to my PCOS/weight gain I can't at the moment. I weigh 255 right now but I know that I am capable of getting heavier because it runs in my family (Dad's side). I have a history of sleep apnea, arthritis in all my joints, asthma, and I am borderline diabetic. I live in Mountain View and was referred out of Kaiser Santa Clara. I did not realize the length of this process but I am sort of glad since it is a major life change even though I dod get inpatient. I love to read all you questions, comments and concerns because I see alot of me in them. So if any of you have any info that can help it is very WELCOMED!!! :-) Maridiana Approved 7/22/05 WAITING...WAITING...WAITING...

Guest guest
Hello Maridiana! Advice #1 - you gotta be patient but be on top of everything. I was accepted into the program in March and by accident pushed my orientation from July to May. I called about something and then squeezed a curious question like " by any chance have there been any cancellations in an earlier class " and wahla! I have to say that SSF has been absolutely wonderful. Always someone there to pick up the phone and always a call back if they can't answer you right then. I feel very fortunate to have been accepted to this program. I met Dr. Stiles and the nurtionist Beth in June and classes in July. Met my surgeon Dr. Umbach last week. It's a lot of waiting but you must focus on absorbing information and losing weight the safe way during this period. I wish you all the luck and do your food journal! They are serious about it! Good luck with everything...I'm waiting to be scheduled in Oct. as soon as the calender comes up (#4 on the surgery list whee!) and at the same time hoping I get a call for a Sept. date in case someone can't do it. Have fun...and it's totally okay to be frustrated sometimes!! Guest guest
Wow Azin! Great to here... I have only called once to see whether my letter was an approval letter or not. I will call today and see where I am at and I love the approach that you used. I will consider something to that effect. What is the food journal and what type of diet should I follow while I am in preparation for the surgery? I am sure they will provide me with all this information during orientation but I am just a bit curious. I wish you luck on your surgery date (in October and shooting for September) and hopefully I will be right behind you on my way to the other side. Thank you for all your support! Guest guest
I agree with Azin about SSF. I have been very happy with SSF, (even with dr stiles, who told me that I would have to wait 6 mos before I could go to the Lifestyles class, and then it would be another 4 before I could see a surgeon!) I wouldn't trade facilities if I had to! Pam b --- " Azeeeeeeeeeeen! Guest guest
Hi Cathy, Well I am sure you will get the approval letter very soon. I know that I had to be on top of it for so long and I finally got a doctor who cared enough to refer me right away! I had my doctor appointment with my PCP and 2 days later my approval letter was sent out (kind of makes me wonder what he said about me...lol). I know that he definitely was supportive of this surgery which I am sure helped my case. I know this is a long process and sometimes I get so inpatient. Hopefully we can go to the same orientation as I am waiting to get scheduled for that. It is nice to have found this website! I have heard so much information that I had no idea about before. Nice to meet youn in here!!! Maridiana Approved 7/22/05 Waiting...Waiting...WaitingCathy wrote: Hi, Maridiana! Hopefully your question will lead to an answer for both of us! I do know, however, that the Lifestyles class is NOT the orientation.
